Thank you so much for posting this Westie groom. I have a 20+ month old Westie named Max and until today I have been happy to pay groomers for all his grooming needs. But right now in Raleigh, NC we have a nasty respiratory infection / pneumonia running rampant through our doggie daycare, groomers and any other space where multiple dogs congregate. Multiple dogs have died from it. Since Max is immunocompromised, I just couldn't take him to get groomed. I watched your post on curly dog grooming and on Westie grooming and put them together. Max is a curly Westie with only a soft coat like a doodle or poodle. I brushed him out, groomed him and then washed him and once his curls popped back out, you can't even tell that I didn't take him to a groomer! Thanks again! Devan

That idea of using the #10 in an inverted V around the eyes is a great tip. She has very gooey eyes and I’m forever cleaning and scissoring there to keep them clean, so I’ll do that in future. Poor Teddy… but he looks great after his hairdresser appointment!

Truly art on a live model. Another detailed, informative video. So interesting to watch. Teddy was nervous, as you noted, but he really responded to your careful, deliberate handling that helped build his confidence. Many, many years ago, I worked for a professional dog handler. He was also a breeder of Pembroke Corgis. He had all types of dog breeds, especially terriers, come in to the kennel to stay a few months so their coats and physiques could be readied for upcoming dog shows. Most of those terriers had to be hand stripped, which, as I'm sure you are well aware, had to be done a bit at a time each day and was a labor of love. Show grooming is a bit different than the more comfortable coats that pet dogs enjoy wearing. Anyway, I learned a great deal working for him but was dismayed to have to give up my job there for a higher paid position to help support my growing family. This was the right decision for my family but as an animal lover, it was not a good change for my spirit. You are so fortunate to be able to work in a field that rewards your creativity and talents. Thank you for sharing. I really enjoy your videos and Teddy's coat looked great when you were done. 💕🐶😽😻💕

She’s 9 months old and in need of grooming so I bought the KM5, after watching your videos ( it’s the closest I could find to your KM10 due to availability) My Fergie has a little more hair than your guy but I need to know what blades or attachments I need? I like your video! I have 4 Westies... all of which have different fur textures. I tend to keep my babies short due to skin allergies. Would you suggest a 7 blade on the bulk portion of his body and a 10 blade for hygiene? I'm about to invest in equipment to do my babies myself (I have 6 dogs in total, so it is quite expensive).

Amy, is hair spray okay for poodle??? Ive seen people put hair spray in there hair to make the styles last longer.

Jamie Hankins I don’t like to use spray because it causes buildup quickly in the coat which can then cause matting. I would prefer to use the anti static spray while scissoring the top knot of a poodle it doesn’t build up as much as hairspray good.
