West Highland Way MTB Day Three | Kingshouse to Fort William | Final day!

The third and final day of our West Highland Way bike packing trip! Do we make it? Of course we do, but in what state? Day three starts with an intimidating climb up out of Glen Coe via the Devil's Staircase, after which follows some of the best descents of the trip, before lunch at Kinlochleven and the long, rough, grinding drover roads over toward Glen Nevis and our final destination of Fort William.
Up until day three we had almost no mechanical issues, so we had plenty on day three, having already pushed our bikes past their sensible limits, but not my Trek though, built like a tank in every way (especially weight).
The West Highland Way is a 96 mile trail starting at Milngavie near Glasgow and ending at Fort William. Join us as we attempt to complete the way on mountain bikes in blazing hot May 2021 weather.
Cycling The West Highland Way is not an easy task, but with training, the correct gear and a bit of old fashioned bloody mindedness it is possible :) even if, like John, you're riding a 25 year old hardtail!

Really enjoyed your video of this trip. I walked the WHW twice and if I was to bike it I'd start from Tyndrum as that's where the trail really starts paying off in terms of scenery. Southern Upland Way is a good shout for bike packing although not as spectacular as the WHW, more rolling hills and sheep country but the valley from St Marys Loch has the same sort of vibe as the descent into Kingshouse.

Thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel! The hardtails coped brilliantly, there's one steepish descent off the back of the devils staircase that is more suited to a full-sus, and they had to pick their lines on the road on day three all the way to Glen Nevis but I would have much rather been on a hardtail than my heavy enduro bike. The On-One Scandal is probably the perfect bike for it, light and nimble, not too pricey to stress about the loose rocks etc. You're going to love it, I keep thinking about getting one myself

You need a mountain bike with rear shock for some of these sections.

It’s preferable but the other four riders I was with were on hardtails and did just fine, I’d argue a hardtail is better for many of the other sections - less weight, less things to go wrong

The quad lock was absolutely solid throughout, I cannot fault it at all, in fact when I upgraded my phone a new quadlock case was the first thing I bought
