I'm a Joel Garner fan, but they were all exceptional and so was Curtly Ambrose in his day. Also I was always impressed with the spinning of Shane Warne. But the fast bowling masters were definitely the WI of the late 70's and the 80's.

The ability to make the ball rise sharply from a good length made it very difficult for batsmen. Garner was at times almost unplayable as he had this vicious ball that came up to your chest from a good length, he also had an amazing yorker and was one of the first bowler to use change of pace. It was not always pace but precision. West Indies pace bowlers showed that if you are a genuine pace bowler pitch does not matter, they were effective on English pitches, Aussie pitches and dry dusty India pitches. Lucky to have seen these great players perform, youngsters today don't know what they missed.

The best team I have seen. Boy could they bat and bowl. Their fielding was good enough also. Captained beautifully by Lloyd. Always appeared as though they were good sports as well. Never appeared to be sledging or complaining. Loved when they toured Aus in the 80s. Was glued to the TV.

Aus was great from 94 to 05 but there W.Indies were something else.Especially the bowlers!!! McGrath and Warne were top and would get you out but the Windies pace-battery were SCARY!!! The got you out through fear whilst McGrath and Warne used skill.

I was brought up watching windies- two west indian greats played in their youth at my local cricket ground in north east england- tynedale c club - Courtney Walsh and I an Bishop- yes it was incredible and they both played for windies with distinction especially big courtney, who was a lovely man- I whitewashed Bishop at pool, lol lol injury prevented him being a great as he was quickest anyone had ever seen. I followed courtneys career with Gloucster where he teamed up with Sid Lawrence to be formidable partnership. Loved windies in 80's- best team ever- the 85 team that came to England was unbeatable- simply the best ever.

God they were just an incredible team. Everyone knows about the deadly fast-bowling and dominating batting but what you really get a sense of in these videos was the standard of the catching. This of course in an era before dedicated fielding coaches and multiple fitness instructors etc. There's Michael Holding at 18.48 taking one of the best catches you'll ever see. I remember when they toured Australia in the 80's.. we'd bust our guts and often they'd still beats us... But we knew we were privileged to see a champion team like they were..We respected them...I'm reminiscing I know.. but I wish I wasn't..world cricket is better off when the Windies are "on song"!

the most intimidiating team ever to play cricket. The Windies team from 79 -92. Roberts,Garner,Holding - Marshall- Walsh,Ambrose,Bishop. Marshall being the common binding factor between 2 FAB4 bowling units. When a team gets the service of 7 fast bowlers who avg:ed < 25 baring one who avg:ed slightly over 25 over a period of time , no wonder that team deserves to be called as the undisputed best of all time.

One thing you don't see from highlights is the accuracy. Either bang on line and length, yorker at the toes, or bouncer to the throat, ball after ball. No respite for the batsmen and sheer intimidation. Went to a couple test matches against the windies in the 80's, is what got me into cricket, and was frightening watching sometimes :) Defnately the best pace attack i've ever seen. Great vid, thx

Great times for cricket. You can see how intimidated the Aussie batsmen were. Most of the shots played were nothing more than a nervous prod.

I think it's becoz of lack of safety gears , nowadays batsman wouldn't be this intimidated becoz of good safety gears

Some of the best cricket videos you will ever see on here. You can't but help admire the skill of the west indies fast bowling brigade. Such legends and I would have to say probably the best group of fast bowlers that will ever play the game bar for a few such as Akram, McGrath and Younis. crystal clear dismissals are a hallmark of the West Indian bowling of this era. Holding, Garner, Marshall and Walsh- what a quartet . Richie Richardson's debut match. Wonderful memoirs. The only mistake they did is not to encourage the younger generation to play as well as they did. Thanks again Rob :D A big fan !

The reason I would love to see another west Indian side, like the one Loyd led, once again, today, is because I always felt that west Indies are perhaps the only team in the world that played the game for the fun of it. They played with a gay abandon and never bothered about loss or victory. They were aggressive players but not aggressive in a negative sense like Australians who provoked opposition by indulging in verbal duels. West Indians instead made their ball and bat do the talking. Perhaps the absence of great players after Lloyd's team members retired led to west Indies losing it's power and this further made west Indian youth take to games other than cricket. For the sake of keeping cricket, the game, (because today it has become to serious a commercial business) we need another west Indian side like that of Lloyd's.. Hope they rise once again and bring back the calypso dance on to the fields!!!

Colin Croft, Patrick Patterson, Michael Holding "gay abandon"? Please. Ask the batsman who had to face them. They cared so much about being bounced out by Australia in 75 that they decided to get their own back.Don't blame them but please... they were fierce competitors. a team would face about 8 overs an hour with only 2 deliveries an over possible to score from. Fantastic cricketers but please see the whole story.

I think the current West Indian players don't have a love of the game like these guys did.Ironically, the legendary players were loyal to the game while the current players are in it for the money only.Additionally, the West Indies Cricket board need to get their act together as well.

You are wrong Easwaran. West Indies under Lloyd did care about winning and never liked the moniker 'calypso cricketers.' Lloyd wanted his team to be professionals and after the 75-76 drubbing they received in Australia, their approach to training etc., changed. The Packer world series cricket helped a lot. Some people who say that today's players only care about money are wrong and unfair. Many of the WI players of old barely made any money and most of them had off season jobs. Certainly we cannot expect our cricketers today to play for peanuts. Our problems in the WI are many. Management, infrastructure, trainibg/coaching and finance or rather lack of finance. Space is limited heret to go into the solutions. Whatever it is, though, it will not be easy.

Truly, pace like fire. An absolute delight to watch. Robelinda, you deserve to be mentioned in Wisden for your invaluable contribution in preserving the beautiful game of cricket for posterity. Those with ADHD (i.e followers of IPL) and Team BCCI maniacs will never be able to appreciate vintage cricket, so nuts to them. Are there any existing videos of Vanburn Holder and Wayne Daniel? And wasn't Pat Pat also a part of the 80's Juggernaught?

What a tremendous team WI was - Never before and never after was there a team to match them! Aus likes to think that McGrath and Warne would have matched WI in Richards-Marshall days but the truth is that McGrath- Warne were no better than Lillie-Thommo. WI would break them down mentally. There are pace bowlers and then there are pace bowlers if you know what I mean. WI pacers were different as they could hurt you easily and they did. They bowled bouncers without bowling it short - It just kicked up and hit you on the hand or head.
