I think Brown was forced to fire Lesley because Brown said before the Arizona game that his staff is the staff and that it wasn't going to change. So, yeah. I feel he was pressured to fire him. They also need a better play caller.

Completely agreee with this. Id bet Baker told neal did you see those fire neal brown billboard ads in Morgantown..He probably told Brown for better of program get a new defense boss. Its clear pass defense is weak link on team an pass rush hasnt been good. Run defense been great. If Baker didnt tell him this then clearly brown thought to save team the recruits Nicco an his job that was decision tthst had to be made I know many want brown fired. Baker said very recently wvu doesn't have the money to fire an replace brown. He hasnt been a horrible coach. He beat Va Tech 2 years in a row he ended holgerson Oklahoma and Oklahoma St losing streaks has a 2 an 1 bowl record compared to wv overall losing bowl record percentage. That's not bad like cignetti in late 70s. Get behind the players lets save this season. Hope the LB coach the new defense Boss will tell the DB get out of that lay back zone an challenge these Receivers. Send more LB to rush passer to help them....

Couz when Steve Dunlap says the defense isnt doing what they should be , thats all i need to know i was thinking right ! He said it on the radio in a game last year ! He should have been gone , thats Neal Brown , he waits to long to want needs to happen now , not wait til years later ! 😊 I am telling you , this offense needs different plays , not going crazy motion and run the same play ! He stated they purposely tried to run time , instead of running your offense and move the chains ! Basically when they got the ball in 4 th quarter and his play calls , were all telegraphic to the defense ! He makes the dumbest play calls at cruel times ! Now the play to Anderson saved his ass ! He shoukd have played him earlier when CJ got hurt ! In fact he should be playing him period to give those guys a break and start running the damn football, which we havent pretty much all year !

NB knew this stuff was going on for a long time on defense, why wasn't NB aware that something needed done and participate in the correction with Lesley ? .... it looked like NOTHING has been done at all. The same thing is going on on offense also. QB's under NB decline after their start and the running game is anemic as well. ......... imo
@samventura54557 күн бұрын
It took way to long. The defense has slowly regressed every year after Lesley was named DC and the fact that he had to go to someone to learn how to coach the defense he was running should never happen at that level, to me he should have been let go then.

It probably won’t take four weeks to decide Brown’s fate. He’s running a gauntlet, and all four of these games in succession will be the most important of his coaching career. WB is a smart man. He HAS to know that keeping NB is going to be more expensive than firing him. From loss of season tickets, attendance, game day expenses, donations etc. more and more people are becoming completely apathetic towards the football program. I fully believe if he just pulled the trigger the fan base and donors will come through for the university like it has time and time again.
@CouzsCornerSports7 күн бұрын
I’m not sure Wren has final say. He answers to Gee and the Board.
@zacheryelkins56887 күн бұрын
@CouzsCornerSports that may be the case but ultimately it’ll be him in the crosshairs next. If NB comes back next year to half empty stadiums still losing games it will not be a good look. We are becoming more and more irrelevant with every passing week. I’m not advocating for WB to lose his job right now. However, he was brought in because he was supposed to be a superb fundraiser. Now we’re being told we don’t have money to do what is necessary. Like it or not regardless on the ever changing landscape, that falls on WB. Regarding the buyout, I don’t buy the excuse honestly. NB and his staff were getting their money regardless. The 22 million for revenue sharing is happening regardless. The only new expense would be the 5-10 million to bring in a new coaching staff.

I think it’s too little too late. Sure WVU could go 8-4 or 7-5 against average to below average teams and make a bowl game and possibly win but let’s not forget Wisconsin did the same thing and fired Paul Chryst for the same record. In a time when it’s more crucial than ever to be serious about football I think West Virginia has to get serious about football. I don’t think Wren Baker has to always answer to Gordon Gee he is practically a lame duck president. And I’m tired of hearing oh “We’re little West Virginia we can’t pay expensive buyouts” 1. That’s bullcrap because in a time of financial crisis you gave him a raise to get there and 2. If Virginia Tech can do it so can West Virginia. This isn’t the 20th century anymore college football is bigger than ever and schools are making hand over fist regardless of what P4 conference they’re in. WVU had the money to give him a raise WVU hast the money to pay him to leave

Let's be real!!!!! His firing means nothing for the program, in the short or long term, if NB is still the HC. His firing, in my opinion, means NB will be back as HC next year. No one on that sideline is gonna make such a significant change to the defense. You’re getting beat playing off the line, the secondary looks lost. The only thing you can do for a change is press and jam at the line. Hoping that throws off the play enough to let the D line eat. Jordan won't be the only coach that's let go, there will be a few more at the end of the season. It's putting a butterfly bandage on an ax wound. Keep in mind you’re probably going to have to even more simplify the D in hopes that they understand their assignments. The D line has been the only shining part. Lets not have all the blame on the defense though, the offense has not been able to perform against a D that is mid-pac or better. You can make the case to sit GG for the rest of the season and start Nicco. Look at some of Nicco's throws, a mid-pac D is gonna at a minimum get a hand on it if not an interception. If i was a betting man i would put money on NB exhausting his contract with WVU. All this did, and what is going to come, is buy time for something that is going to inevitably fail. Though the extension you gave NB relieved some pressure buyout wise. The Extension set you up so if last year was a fluke year, you will be right back in the situation you were in before last season. This season has proven that: 2023 was a down year for the Big 12 The Coaching Staff still can’t evaluate talent on a consistent basis Neal Brown is to loyal at this point to be good HC at a P4 Program Previous AD’s and a current AD can make the same mistakes You have to have some dog in you You listed off Koontz's resume. While some of the accolades are impressive, the not asked questions is what I would be asking: Why not a major coordinator position at a P4/5 school so far You have been at WVU for 5 years now, with no improvement why you Seems to me like a lack of stepping, or confidently getting your point across. If you’re not able to do that with your “peers”, what makes you think you will be able to do that with your “guys”. Both on the sideline and on the field. At the end of the day you can say that this administration is in shambles, if not all a good portion of it is. This is what happens when you don’t have good leadership from the top. May not show up until years later but I fear we are reaping the sowing of that now. With Gee, now I guess you could call a lame duck, you’re not going to get that leadership you need until the next President is appointed. Catch 22: Want to support the men on the field, buy season and single game tickets, sustain and enhance the TV viewership. But at this point I know if I do the administration is going to stay status quo and no real changes will be made. Apologize for the Rant

No matter what Brown's does at the end of the year he is fired because Baker will want to keep his job with a new president coming in next year he'll probably will fire everyone when their contracts are up and get his own people. Brown has lost the fan base and only brings nine starters back so that's basically a rebuild with a pretty easy schedule next year at least starting out first three games. So it's all downhill for brown and been attached to him will probably get bakers sent down the road. Fan base already moved on, we want to know who the next coach is. We can't help it they made a mistake with a contract extension that's on them. They should have known better I've been saying for two years fire Neal Brown there's nothing impressive about him he's just average as a coach. Maybe below average.

Chances are Neal stays for another season. Leslie is gonna be a pawn to save Neal’s job. WVU might win out. I’m actually routing for them to lose every game here out because nb has to go! We know nb can’t win big games. He needed to go yesterday! Considering WVU can’t budget their finances correctly and continue bringing a losing vibe to Morgantown, we don’t deserve the big 12. Power 3 status.

Lesley is a good d-line coach which is what got him to the d-coordinator position but man is he awful at being a d-coordinator. Kinda wish he could stay to continue to be the d-line coach but i know he would try to influence the defensive play calls since he’s so close to Neal. He’ll find another good job elsewhere being a d-line coach and he’ll be great at that but d-coordinator is not and shouldn’t be his job anywhere for quite some time.
