For me, sex education started in primary school at about 11~ years old. It was more about getting to know our bodies first so it was split between boys and girls classes and then at about 12 to 13 years old we learned about the other sex and a little bit more 'mature' stuff. Then in our first year of high school 14-15 it was full on and we learned about sex with all genders, sexuality, and consent was pretty much hammered into our heads.

i feel like korea and the states are very similar in the sense that there are many schools and parents who just say "no" or "dangerous" instead of teaching about sex ed. Also, i wish around the world people would know that there aren't just condoms for men, but also condoms for women, there are more contraceptive methods than the pill as well. i remember when i was 15 we were taught by 2 female tech about alll the possibles methods of contraceptions, and i was stunned to learn that there are more ways to prevent an accidental pregnancy or spreading diseases than just by using male condoms and the pill.

In Mozambique, Africa (where I'm from) many people are uncultured about sex, not many public schools have sex Ed like all private schools here do, so there is a lot of unwanted pregnancies and STDs all around (no wonder why we r the second country all over the world with the most cases of HIV&AIDS) BUT I see many people are already starting to be aware because of social media and influences they have and many people are now starting to understand the importance of knowing about sex. The difference between today and in the past is that people talk more about it. There have always been a lot of love motels in the past 40 years in Korea, so to think that all those love motels stayed open without anyy business is naive. Secondly, dvd room culture (there used to be a lot of these), cheap karaoke rooms, hunting culture, sogetting culture have been around a long time as well and they ended up with sex as the ultimate outcome, although not necessarily in a relationship. The government program which sent gyopos back to Korea so they can learn about Korea eneded because too many girls in Korea ended up becoming pregnant. Many people, not all, go to Korea to teach English because they hear stories from their friends of how they hooked up with many Korean girls. Many Korean wives had boyfriends (not their husband) and many Korean men had gone to prostitutes. Also, travel became an outlet, especially for Korean women to have sex more frequently because they knew that the risk of anyone in Korea finding out that they had sex was very unlikely. Anyone who thinks that Korea hasn't been sexually active in the past 40 years is naive. It just wasn't talked about but was denied by the people having sex.

In the usa sex education starts in middle school in some places and primary school in other places. I had classes in middle school but I sort of already knew things from movies and sometimes from older kids who would talk about things. The thing that surprised me most was learning about how many diseases there are. I knew about AIDS and herpes because there were lots of government public education on tv and things but all the other ones, I was shocked. We don't learn the important things, how women can have short cervix, or what endometriosis is, or that sex is not the same with every partner or even every time with the same partner. Plus consent, like how you can yes to one thing but that doesn't mean you have to say yes to everything and men have to learn that consent must be continuously agreed upon. Also, sex can create emotional bonds young people may not be ready for. It doesn't always but for a lot of people it will and that can be confusing, especially if you aren't actually dating.

Such an amazing video!! I had a really biased idea about Korean people being not able to even talk about sex, I had the idea of them becoming extremely shy about it but now I see that we aren't much different in that subject. Despite the bad sexual education in Korea, people are becoming more aware about it and more open-minded and that's something I'm so happy to know because I'm always opened to talk about that kind of things with anyone, I think it's an important subject to talk about without the "cringe - awkward" atmosphere. Thank you for this. I'm from Chile and I'm seeing not too much differences between Korean, UK and here, nice to know it

I think it’s bc we only see the “idols” or celebrity stereotype of Koreans. Watching the drama “hello, my twenties.” It has a much more realistic representation of Korean girls in their early-late 20’s. Some of them curse, smoke, drink, hook-up, just as others do. Not all aeggyo and cutesy and acting like they never had a boyfriend. I’m sure it’s true for some but so is the latter. I think parents should be open about the subject when their kids come to them about it rather than saying “no” or “it’s dangerous.” My parents talked about it as it being special and should be done with someone you love. Should be done respectfully and to never reveal anything about a girl no matter how good or bad regarding sex, it’s disrespectful.

As a British Muslim, imma talk really honestly I haven't had sexual experience yet. That being said even though I come from a Conservative country my religion promotes sexual talk if it is beneficial. However, I am much more british than I am arab and therefore find it soooo easy to talk about sex. In all its aspects whether its a joke or educational or based on experience. I think I am thankful for being brought up in the UK 🇬🇧 I don't have shame from sex. Its a natrual thing. And I speak rather freely to all my friends who have sexual experience. I also wish the Muslim community will actually learn a thing or two from stuff like this. Especially for the sake of females. As alot of females have rights taken away from them based on sex (virgin or not) I think its disgusting. It's not okay and there is a double standard that stems from culture and not religion. I have more to say but that's actually way too long 😅

I'm also a Muslim, and we talk about sex and never think of it as a shameful thing because we always keep in mind that sex is only for married people and presume that everyone is completely aware that it is only for married people. So we discuss freely and don't regard it as a sin, but rather as a pleasure. We have known since an early age what is haram and what is not, particularly positions that harm women. Women will teach you a lot, especially if you hang out with married women. I mean, even on TV, imam talks about it a lot since it's the most often questioned topic. Of course, the younger generation of Koreans are more open than their parents, and this is good for future generations, to whom their more open parents will be able to properly convey sex education. But at the same time, I would not like that in Korea they treated sex superficially like in the West, where sex is often like a handshake. This is not entirely correct. All so people need to be more than just following basic instincts.
@eternalptgmx
@eternalptgmx Жыл бұрын
I agree with this. I am from the usa and sex is treated very casually by a lot of people and that is why we have so many single parents. They want to have sex but not to raise babies and they don't care if they get diseases. They just have sex like animals. I don't think this is good. We should be open about sex but not irresponsible. If a person thinks they are mature enough to have sex they should be mature enough to use birth control or a condom.
@theblackpope4507

@@eternalptgmx That’s really not how it necessarily works. A lot of people that engage in a lot of sexual activities, do make use of protection. And a lot of people that go for one night stands are very respectful to the person that they do it with and ensure to set all the necessary boundaries. People getting pregnant without preparation occurs for varies complicated matters. Such as a lack of sex ed, especially rampant in areas that are affected by low-economic statuses. And very common among youngsters that lacked adequate parental guidance, or were born in toxic environments. Or cases in which the person may suffer from a disorder that obtains symptoms of volatile and extreme behaviors. The idea that casual sex = pregnancy and STDs consists of gross generalization and not taking into account the complexity of this issue.

I don't know about now but back in the day we got a 2hr long sex ed lesson in 5th grade so we were like 10 or 11 at the time, didn't care much about it after that but as soon as I hit 12 and fooled around for the first time it made me realize I should've probably payed more attention back then, it may have helped me not make such a fool out of myself.

@@Saad72Shahriar Not true. There are numerous bogus sources around, but if you really want to know, got look for specific Medical research, which is objective, taken by professionals and doesn't involve 1st person testimony which is obviously biased.Objective research Shows that northern Europeans (UK, France, Germany, Scandinavia) and "central" Africans are, on average larger.But the difference between those and SK, is not significant enough to become the stigma. Also, this is an average on a scale, so there will be anomalies above, so that means Heejae's statement is untrue, and she should be careful with that

@@Rowlph8888 World data is one of the most trusted websites for statistics of any kinds. They use multiple sources to come to a conclusion. Be careful before throwing something out of the window. Yes, different studies can have different results that's why you need multivariate analysis for this kinds of cases. I would like to point out that Germany and France are not located in the Northern Europe.
@Rowlph8888
@Rowlph8888 Жыл бұрын
@@Saad72Shahriar I only used, northern Europe is a description, because on these channels they like to refer to everyone who is white as the "Westerner", and i didn't want to spend any more time writing here, so I chose a more accurate general description, of the groups I'm referring to. Multivariate analysis is indeed crucial, but that can still be flawed, if it uses examples which involve self-report, by those participating. A few studies have done this, exclusively collating medical reports, involving no personal testimony and came to the conclusions I mentioned above. we also have to consider that these countries, in particular, have practised multiculturalism for decades, so that will include many racial groups, Which will skew results, from what people are visualising as a typical citizen of a particular country. Anyway, as we pretty much concluded, the differences are negligible and something that shouldn't be brought up so often, as they are in these videos as it is unkind and pointless

I was surprised that in the UK - it sounds like "specialized" stores only carry condoms like similar to Korea? In the USA, you can buy condoms at any grocery store or pharmacy - pretty much anywhere that carries toilet paper, etc. So condoms are easily accessible. Doesn't mean people won't be embarrassed to buy them. But with more and more places having self checkout registers, it's easier in that respect.
