On The West Wing Weekly podcast, Aaron Sorkin said it was his biggest regret of the show that he didn't secure Emily as a regular.
@Buzzbar945 жыл бұрын
Aaron Sorkin has said that the biggest regret he had was not getting Emily/Ainsley as a permanent star. But with the show only in its second season and already having a large main cast all they could offer was a recurring guest role. When CSI Miami was in the works she was approached by the writers and offered a permanent leading role for that show. And with a lead role comes more job security and more money. Realistically, at the time, she made the right decision and still came back throughout the series as a guest star. But I think the show would have benefited greatly having her as a lead. Her chemistry with the cast, Rob Lowe especially, was astounding. My favourite scene between the two of them will always be Blame It On The BossaNova. But there are brilliant scenes thrown in there too. Emily herself has even said that she would have loved to stay on The West Wing but she needed something with more security so she ended up going with CSI.
@Teladian25 жыл бұрын
I had always heard his biggest regret was giving Bartlette MS... but this would certainly qualify as too bad.. she was awesome.
@cards04864 жыл бұрын
I liked that they brought her back in the final season. Ainsley was desperate to come back, and C.J. fought for her. Both had learned that Republicans and Democrats can work well together if they respect each other. And, like President Reagan said,”...if you don’t care who gets the credit.” I wish D.C. could remember that now. I liked Emily on CSI:Miami. But anyone could have played that part. I hated that she wasn’t kept on WW.

I LOVE this scene, not just because it's funny on so many levels, but it also does something that we don't see enough of in today's political climate, and that is IT GIVES RESPECT TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ARGUMENT! We all know Aaron Sorkin is arguably the best screenwriter of his generation, and we also know that he is a VERY outspoken liberal. He wrote this show from that perspective, but kudos to him and his fellow screenwriters for creating a character like Ainsley who gives a credible voice to the right.

That's what I love about Sorkin's political writings. It's never just one side getting bashed, we hear equally credible arguments from all sides showing that there are smart, hardworking patriots everywhere and they only disagree on how to do things, not on whether they love their country or not. In a way, Sorkin is far more patriotic then nonsensical works that display flags, eagles, etc. Real patriotism means overcoming your differences, listening to the other side and working together to reach a common goal.

@India.H9 жыл бұрын
+Bayougirl78 I think they would've ended up arguing too much simply because they're both strong, intelligent, opinionated people. Yes, they become friends when she starts working at the White House and yes, Sam defends her several times, but I think they're too similar to spend their entire lives together. In a relationship, the two people have to be similar enough to have common grounds but, at the same time, different enough that one can predict the other with boring monotonous. They're both serious people and they would've kept each other grounded.
@perpetualnotion74537 жыл бұрын
+Indi Heaton - I agree that pairing them up would require taking away what makes them great on screen if they were to keep it realistic and then no-one would care if they paired up or not. You could always feel the additional chemistry with Donna & Josh that wasn't their with Ainsley & Sam. It was with Malory, yet it wasn't with Laurie as fond of her as he was. Those 3 were written distinctly differently and acted brilliantly too. Not to mention we did see him post sleeping with Laurie, having an interest in Malory and being awkward doing the feature with his ex-wife who he left to work on the Bartlett campaign; poor Margaret.
@maragathm7 жыл бұрын
I always feel like this chemistry people talk about that they see between two people is beyond looks, it is this quality or need one person has being fulfilled while being with the other. The chemistry was so obvious with Josh and Donna is because Josh loves being hero worshipped and no one does it better for him than Donna, and Donna loves to be the damsel in distress for Josh even though she pretends otherwise. Jed needed Abby to ground him, and CJ needed Danny to give her a sense of belonging. Sam and Ainsley are too amicable, too level headed, they were just too comfortable to a point she is the mirror image of him and he her, they don't have the desperate need of each other. Sam and Ainsley have a dream friendship that most of us wish we could have the opposite sex, were you can be yourself to the point of acting like a fool, completely disagree with the other person without losing respect for each other, be brutally honest and shamelessly flirt without giving offence or have it misunderstood, love the other without being in love.

She has a point. Of course, the real issue is that allowing certain schools to buy their own textbooks would result in textbooks in some schools, that falsely claim that abstinence is an effective form of contraception, that the earth is 6000 years old, or that the civil war was about States wanting to exercise their own rights. But other than that, she has a few good points. I always liked the character of Ainsely. She was a great, likeable character with republican beliefs. So long as what those beliefs were went unmentioned. Which sort of says a lot about a certain strata of politics, where the only way to make someone with those politics likeable, is not to mention them. Honestly, I think Newsroom did a better job of portraying a sympathetic Republican, but being brave enough to pass judgement on certain Republican beliefs - such as them being held hostage by the IRA, Religious Nutters, etc. West Wing did discuss those issues - but usually from the perspective of the Democrats.

If abstinence means 3 in 10 have sex and 2 get pregnant but teaching about safe sex means 5 in 10 have sex but only 1 gets pregnant teaching safe sex is better. Those numbers are just examples but you get the picture.

And when I found out it was done by Sorkin, which I then discovered was the one who did The West Wing. I started to watch it. Ainsley Hayes has been one of my favorite characters so far. I was thinking she was brought in to kinda take the place of the short hair brunet girl Mandy (Moira Kelly), which I found her character rather annoying. So I was happy. However Im at the end of season 2 and so far Ainsley hasnt been in a whole lot of episodes. Which is disappointing. And judging by the clips Ive seen of Ainsley here on youtube, it doesn't look like she will be in many more episodes. Or any more episodes at all. Which is very disappointing. Was hoping that Sam S and her were going to become a thing. Guess not.

Maybe yes, maybe no. While I have no problem with private sector unions, I do have a problem with public sector unions because there's inherently something wrong with them. Unions should be at odds, for the most part, with management. However, public sector unions are in the pockets with the democrat party (or visa-versa), which means that Dem politicians don't care about negotiating in good faith on the management side of things. They're willing to pay whatever to keep the public sector unions in their pockets. And that's not a good thing for the tax payers. Now, you might say that the GOP isn't on the side of the public sector unions. And they shouldn't be. Management in general shouldn't be on the side of the union. They can have good relations with them, but they shouldn't be on the same side.
