Westbury BELLS

In 1921 two additional bells were added to the original six making them the 3rd heaviest peal of eight in the World and creating the majestic sound we hear today. The tenor weighs 35 cwt.
Westbury church noted in the Domesday book1086 on this site was most likely a wooden Saxon structure. The Normans established the first stone church here circa 1220.
The faceless church clock was built in 1604 by the local blacksmith
and is still fully functioning.

Tis thine to use it, ill or well".

Beautiful ring of 8 bells. I always think the heavier peals of bells sound much nicer than the lighter peals but thats my opinion though. Didnt know about these bells til i saw this video, love it.

Absolutely MAGNIFICENT. along with the glorious 8 in Adelaide. Far better than Sherbourne. the heaviest 8 . I love the tenor the warmth and glow of it is something else.

they were the second heaviest for a while. Adelaide's were installed in 1947

I have to agree with Jason. Sorry Paddy. Adelaide have more of a clonkiness to them which is grand in their respect but Westbury have a wonderful sonorous tone to them that can quite literally be unequalled in any other ring of bells.

@@RingerJake Adelaide has a bit more of a distorted sound to it at times, but both are very good rings, though I prefer Adelaide purely because I think the Cathedral looks cooler.

@@user-ge8rx4jl6f no, the tenor and treble are. the bells are in the key of C, which is different. the tenor is 41-1-0 and cast by Taylor's in 1946 and hung in 1947.
