We had two 40’s Willy’s jeeps at my grandparents ranch and we put those things through more crap in the mountains and river and sand than they probably faced in Germany and they took it every time. When we very rarely broke them they were super easy and fast to fix. When you lock the front hubs and put the in 4 wheel low they are just about unstoppable. We had a couple of other 4 wheel drive vehicles there that couldn’t do half the stuff those 2 Willy’s could.

My 43 GPW pulls 20' camper trailers around the field like it's nothing. And in low you can almost walk next to the jeep
@P-J-W-777
@P-J-W-777 10 ай бұрын
@@kyleh3615 I’d imagine it would pull a 30’ foot trailer as well lol. We use to pull 12’ wide drag behind ours to clean up and level out the surfaces of our roads to the river and our alfalfa fields. They are what I learned to dive stick in and nothing is worse than driving stick through the mountains almost 30 miles to town. Steering never was exactly the tightest and you always had to pump the brakes after a bit lol. Needless to say I was never nervous driving any other standard vehicles in the mountains and hills. The government got that vehicle right. Then again that was a different time with different builders and such. Truly amazing vehicles and in my opinion the most indestructible Jeep ever made.

@@P-J-W-777 the Ross T-12 steering gear box was always trash. You can adjust it and tighten it, but it backs off almost immediately
@P-J-W-777
@P-J-W-777 10 ай бұрын
@@kyleh3615 yep, we thought about changing them out at one time but ultimately decided that it really wasn’t worth it considering what we primarily used them for. Plus they are really easy to work on and are practically bullet proof. We had a lifted 79 GMC C-1500 4x4 with mechanical hub locks that we fully restored. It was more for more my grandparents as it was a more comfortable and had an A/C & Heater lol. Anyway neither it or the 82 Bronco could hang with the Willys. The only other off road vehicle that we had that came close was our International Harvester Scout. I absolutely loved that vehicle. It was in pretty bad shape and didn’t have an engine when we acquired it. We ended up dropping in a 454. It would absolutely run and I’ve had it airborne on several occasions lmao. The memories, I miss so much about those days!!!

The Jeep you have is NOT a WW II model. It is a 1950s era Jeep since it still has a flat head engine. In the 1960s, they body style remained substantially the same but they upgraded to an overhead valve engine,fully synchronized transmission, and 12 volt electrical system as well as increasing the tire size somewhat. The vehicle identa-plate will have the year of manufacture on it. By the way, WW II ended in 1945.

That jeep brought back some memories. I had one in Korea, and elsewhere, that issue brought me back from a lot. Why the Army got rid of that, and when with another, is beyond me. Small, less of a target, a tried and true performer, something you could depend on. is what this jeep was all about.
