When my mother in law house had to make way for building terminal 3 in Beijing few years ago, western media blamed the cruel Communist for kicking villages out. Few know that, first she had received notice 3years before. She will receive a better condo, closer to city, and at least 1.5 times larger than her old flat. In this episode, Jason Burger reported a fact which people in the west either rarely heard of, or could not comprehend such good things could be true, especially in a ‘totalitarian’ country like China. As we all know, China’s building boom has been going on for decades, not only in the First-Tier cities, but literally all over China. If your dwelling is scheduled to be demolished, you are basically sitting on a gold mine, and you will became rich practically overnight. Since I first visited China about twenty years ago, I’ve witnessed numerous such Nouveau Riches. The term 拆迁戶, literally means families-to-be-relocated, has become 拆迁富, which means families-to-become-rich. In the Guizhou dialect, 戶 and 富 sound exactly the same. I bought a property in Guiyang from such a 拆迁戶, they were allocated two units in the brand new building after their old one was demolished, they living in one of the units, and sold the other to me for almost a million RMB, and their initial cost? A mere 30,000 RMB. They spent 100,000 in renovation and put the rest in the bank, live on the interest for the rest of their lives. BTW, as a foreigner, I did have to pay a special tax similar to the Canadian Land Transfer Tax, but the amount was so insignificant and it was also only a one-shot thing, that I actually don’t remember exactly how much. I just love to have my own place whenever I visit (which is very often). As for the monthly maintenance fees? I think it’s less than the cost of two Whoppers!

Yes, China is indeed short of food, because the Chinese have given up agriculture and a lot of food needs to be imported.
@@现实唯唯诺诺 Huh not true, based pn wto records its a net food exporter. Vegetables now here in the philippines are imported from china.

I love how BBC literally applied the grayed out filter to Jason's photo in their latest hit piece. It's so ironic its actually hilarious. Those BBC presstitutes have zero self awareness.
