Wonderful film! First day of the summer holidays in 1967, my dad took me trainspotting at Hayes & Harlington Station to watch the Westerns roar through at speed. He said they sounded like Spitfires taking off! Just dad and me, a lovely sunny morning and still recalled as one of the best days of my life . ❤

When I was a kid, I used to watch these engines going full tilt through Ealing Broadway station.

don't know where they got the engines from but sound reminds me of Tank engines. Such a lot of interesting names too! The Western Advocate, Courier, Emperor, Ranger, Talisman, Trooper, Thunderer, Western Queen, and many more. looking at the Western Enterprise the colour Desert Sand is unusual for a train in those days but after I think its good. I didn't think there was any footage of these beauties but here it is, Thank you so much for putting this footage out there. ❤❤😀😀💜💜

I was delighted to read in a railway publication that towards the end of the Western, there enthusiast following ie the Bashers would all chip in together to charter a train. One way of getting that extra milage. Fabulous.

Interesting, one of the clips shows the unusual sight of a TOPS era Blue Pullman!

They did not run exclusively on the western region. I drove many to and from Birmingham new street in the 70s from Paddington.

Indeed. In the other episodes of this series there are several shots of them at Snow Hill and the like.

If only you were the driver that took a 7 year old boy on to Western Duchess at Fishguard. I would shake you by the hand for making that boy the happiest boy ever and thank you and your secondman for lifting me up and down to your cab.

Nit-picking 99% of their accumulated mileage would've been on WR metals
