Not alot of videos or information on the valves , mine would only go left . I tested everything electrical , no difference , finally watched your video and cleaned out the valve assembly and found one valve was stuck ever so slightly. cleaned them all out and its working properly finally . thanks again for explaining things everyone else seems to forget !

The western plow pump repair video Fix turning and up Down was Excellent!!! My neighbor has a problem with his up and left to right I noticed he had someone change the motor to a new style puting the ground cable on the side of the motor instead of motor housing. I like what you did grounding the solenoids seperatly makes sence for a good ground like the old way they were. Im a retired mechanic still working on old junk. Why dident western plow co make a video like you did ??! Thank you David

For pump/fluid freezing issues put one of those adhesive heating pads on the side of reservoir. Some silicone on edges to help hold it. BUT get the temp controlled pads that turn off at like 190 degrees or whatever. Some go up to 300 degrees that's too warm

You did a good job of explaining what all the valves do. Mine stopped angling today for an unknown reason, not sure if a valve is stuck or the safety relief valve went bad but it will angle if I push up against something so I'm assuming the relief valve might be ok. The solenoids seem to have good magnetism and connections are good so I'm assuming a valve may be stuck and thanks to you're video I now know which ones to check. TY.

On that hose cut a 8" piece of 5/8 or 3/4 heater hose. Cut a slit down it, then slide on that hose and throw some zip ties on it. Works great for extra chaffing resistance on hoses, wire harness or other lines etc.

S1 valve is lower only S2 right turn S3 left turn(w S2) and lift. What is not mentioned is, anything that has to return, has to run through S2, and S3. Your plow lowering has to push oil through S1,S2,and S3. Right turn and left turn push return fluid through S2 and S3. Raising the the plow, pushes oil through S3, S2 , and S1. S1 holds the plow up until lowered.

Ok, are there 2 pressure relief valves??? Im having the same issue as you. Cleaned everything you showed, replaced filter, replaced fluid, new pump motor, new ram and seals, and it worked perfect for about an hour of plowing then started lifting very slowly and turning side to side very slowly while straining pump motor. I started ordering new parts to completely rebuild the pump and manifold. On plow parts direct website they sell 2 pressure relief valves as a kit! So is there two? You only show and talk about one. Thanks!

Great video. I have the cable style (Western Isarmatic Mark IIIa) and I was just testing things moments ago and my plow will not move to the left. Would you happen to know which valve operates the left motion? I had the wife push the joystick to the left and I pulled on the left side of the plow hoping to break it loose. No go. I'm scratching my head and I'm stuck like my plow! LOL!
@Geonious2 жыл бұрын
UPDATE: I just went back outside to look at the pump and because its cable driven it looks completely different than your video. I may just drain it, take it off the Jeep and take it to a plow shop. I know a garage my dad took it to Jerry rigged a missing part and I would like to sure the plow is in tip top shape. The farmer's almanac predicted a terrible winter this year and I don't want to be stuck without a plow.

I have a slight leak where the solenoid block meets the pump housing. Would you say it’s probably just the O-rings or should I attempt to tighten? I just noticed it, haven’t tried anything yet. It’s the same Unimount set up and motor etc.
@HackNpackShop3 жыл бұрын
I would put new o rings on it...tightening it more may work but also a risk breaking something. All depends on how tight its in

Okay thanks for the quick response. I bought the plow recently and just got it mounted yesterday. Runs great otherwise. Going to change the hydraulic fluid/gasket etc this next week on it and get it cleaned up inside. I’ll probably go ahead at that point and change the o-rings too.

Too much work. How about... put a fresh hydrauliic filter on each November and come springtime do a complete fluid changeout before laying up? Yeah, you still gotta take it apart every few years and replace o-rings or seals, but if you keep the system closed it should be ready for you when you need it. That pickup screen might be okay in protecting the pump, but maybe add a good filter/housing to your setup to protect your valves and devices in the block. Speed problems on hydraulics are almost always volume problems [not pressure] - the regulator has caught some kind of system trash or a hose is failing on the inside/partially blocking flow.
@johnjg885 жыл бұрын
How about the relief valve for lowering?
@eddiecunninghamlll96845 жыл бұрын
That would be called a quill. Most have them on their valve block. Its a valve block , not "the solenoid holder" LOL..... the drop speed is important. If you're running a commercial grade heavy Mall bored , you don't like that falling as hard as they have theirs falling. You will crack and break concrete. 31 years doing this , I have done it and learned a valuable lesson.!!
@eddiecunninghamlll96845 жыл бұрын
The relief is what he was talking about but could not give the correct valve name. What that does is protect your lines and equipment from excessive force if it is in straight blade, and you grab a very heavy heavy snow on the right side, if it is too much the relief valve will let loose instead of your RAM or bending Mall board or frame. hope that helps and it does have absolutely nothing to do with drop speed... Drop speed and hydraulic flow are always on quill adjustment nuts
