Actually Steve I live in Ontario but have visited St John’s and Newfoundland several times. It is a fascinating province full of friendly people. The approach to the airport from the Atlantic is always interesting. Enjoy the pubs in St John’s and take a hike through the Battery to Signal Hill through the narrows then climb to the top. Then it’s down hill with beautiful vies of the city.

One of my sons went to play in a hockey tournement with his french club to Montréal then Québec city he brought some back over in packets😂 also this year at our christmas market there was a couple from Québec region who where selling loads of canadian food and drink 😂😂

West Jet are wonderful people. We missed a flight from Las Vegas back to the UK a few years ago (taxi didn’t turn up!).The BA staff basically didn’t give a sh**, but the West Jet ground crew overheard us - arranged our flight back to the UK via Toronto and upgraded us!

I am 77 and lived in Canada my whole life. Newfoundland is the only province i have not been to. The others many times. Born in Ontario. Stepfather was in the armed forces so we were stationed at many bases around Canada. Last base was in Alberta, and i stayed. So thank you for Newfoundland.

I've been nursing a really bad flu the past 10 days and unable to get out or do much and I can't tell you how comforting your videos have been during this otherwise unpleasant time. This video bought back happy memories of a couple of weeks spent working in and around St John's about 30 years ago. Main memories are the welcoming and friendly people there (including a few convivial evenings spent in a dockside bar with the captain of a Canadian coast guard ship), donuts, flying in an American Air Force iceberg survey aircraft and also meeting a couple of lovable Newfoundland dogs. Its a place I would be very happy to return to. Looks like the weather hasn't changed since I was there.

I loved Newfoundland! We live in W. Canada. Also experienced someone giving us a lift right after arrival in St. John’s…….she drove us all around the downtown area and pointed out the best places to eat….turned out she was a Prof. at MUN. Lovely people there!

I hope you had a fantastic time in my hometown/-province! Originally a fish merchant's warehouse, the Murray Premises was renovated and re-opened in late 1979 as a somewhat posh shopping arcade with some specialty stores and a few fairly high-end boutiques as well as a couple of great restaurants. The hotel first opened in the 1990s, and seems to have taken over more and more of the property.

As a Canadian who loves Scotland more than anywhere else and continues to find excuses to go back, I’m excited to see Canada from a Scot’s POV!! Would love to hear your thoughts on this take, and I’m sure this could be a given since so many Canadians (myself included) have Scottish roots… but I’ve always felt we’re similar countries in terms of people and attitude. With similar senses of humours. We’re both friendly and don’t take ourselves too seriously. I always say that’s why I feel so at home in Scotland. The Premier Inn at North Terminal is usually quite reasonable and rooms are far more spacious. Also has a nice bar and restaurant.

I can also recommend the Premier Inn at Gatwick, I paid less than £145 the last time I stayed there, but hotel prices seem to have increased a lot in the last 2 years.

You should have booked the nearby Premier Inn (A23) at Gatwick, Steve. It would have cost you around half the Yotel cost. You’d have been in your much larger room by 3pm, and from there, it’s only a 10 min walk to N Terminal. Enjoying your videos, btw. 👍🏼

I live in Northern California. It takes us all day to go from San Francisco to London to Edinburgh. By that I more than 24 hours including the flight changes, security and other wait times. .

In my experience, the Yotel can be more expensive than some of the proper hotels on site, there is a Travelodge just off site from the north terminal that is normally the cheapest, about 5 minutes walk. The Yotel is handy if you have a long transfer and just want 4 or 5 hours sleep or a shower.

That Gatwick hotel might have been convenient but you’d have had plenty of time to head down on the train from Gatwick to Horsham to grab a hotel which would have probably been cheaper, gotten you a proper size room and definitely had more easy access to the pub! Yotel is a discount trendy chain. While they're not five-star, they're fine for what they promise to provide. That awkward bathroom is part of the allure--they had the same arrangement in their Washington DC property. Just make sure if you are sharing the room with someone, that someone is fine with you showing off all the human being stuff we all have to do. I think Yotel is probably better experienced as a single traveler...

Crazy that your flight from Aberdeen to Gatwick was less expensive than a night in that Yotel. The Canadian welcome you received by that couple offering you a ride reminded me of the kindness I have experienced from people in Scotland, and I'm Canadian of Scottish decent. The east coast of Canada (Maritimes) still retains much of the old country norms and values. It's a beautiful thing, isn't it!

Another enjoyable video Steve! Im booked to travel WestJet Dublin to Toronto in April on one of those 737s, I got the flight one way for €155 which is a great price. I do prefer wide bodied on long flights but this price was just too good to ignore and looking at your video, legroom looked fine, and I'm sure flight will be no more uncomfortable than on different carriers. I thought your flights were quite expensive especially the Aberdeen to Gatwick one at £93 but then it seems flights from Ireland these days to most place do seem better value!

Watching you guys walk by the harbour just reminded me of the TV show Republic of Doyle - one I wish they would bring back. It looks like a photographers paradise there - so hopefully one of these days I will get to go see it too.

Steve ,you need to have Alicia in most of your future videos. She is just so much fun,and funny. I know that I would not be very happy with a 5 or 6 hour flight on a 737. Unless it was too good of a price.
