For those who think there's a problem with the engines there isn't ...I'm a hundred percent certain the starters are being motored to introduce cooler air into the engine if the turb out temp is too high to effect a start . Starting a too hot engine could result in a hot or hung start which has serious and expensive implications on the powerplant if the procedure were to continue without purging the overheated air. This isn't uncommon in fact anything that runs on a turbine engine will do this if it's too hot . Sometimes it's also done to purge any residual fuel in the engine

ZZ Cat, bell 222s are not fixed pitched. Most if not all helicopters are collective pitch. The only helicopters that I think are fixed pitch are some RC heli's. If their are fixed pitch helicopters, I've never seen one or have ever heard of one. Least ones that use a tail rotor to counteract the torch of the main rotor.

AIRWOLF was in the 1980's and yes it is the same model/type they used but the one they used on the show was modefied with fake jet pipes, intakes, and gun ports for the show.

(0 - 0:14) ignite at :32 - Fail stopped at :39 -fail for cold down and restart. Start #2 motor (:45 - 1:01) at : 45 start fail at 1:01 stopped for cool down and restart Restart #1 1:12 startup 1:22 ignite 1:27 fired for full run Good start.. wait for 2 min warm up.. Restart #2 1:46 startup 2:02 ignite failed... restart#2 3:32 start Good start... wait for warm up... 4:47 full idling for take off...

interesting. I'm not a pilot, but figured that there was an issue with the engines starting. do you think it was an error by the pilot, or some kind of mechanical issue?
@loopsprice31289 жыл бұрын
+paramagic06 It happens from time to time. You have to do it at the right point or you'll miss the start on them old Bells.. there maybe a problem but Im not a tech

Those Bell 222s must be fixed pitch, judging by the way the washout base & swashplate is setup.
@av8rbri4736 жыл бұрын
ZZ Cat NO. Helicopter blades are not fixed pitch or they'd never be able to lift off the ground. They use what's called a collective to change the rotor blades pitch angle, or "angle of attack" which thus produces more OR less lift. The "cyclic" is what moves the main rotor mast around which helps make the Heli change directions... (left, right, fwd, sideways, backwards, etc) and finally, the tail rotor blades are to "counter" "p-factor" (opposite twist or turning tendency) (of which are operated by foot pedals) that the powered main rotor blades produce. without them, the heli would be in an uncontrolled state and it would be spinning around nonstop.... and ultimately crash.... most Quad copters (R/C models) have fixed pitch blades because ea rotor blade is powered independently, and can control the aircrafts movement by varying power independently to ea rotor... Hope that helps...
