ULTRALIGHT BIKEPACKING
THE LIGHEST SLEEPING BAG IN THE WORLD
PHDesigns - Delta-Race 100 K
Testing out PHDesign’s lightest sleeping bag in the world weighing in at a massive 200g! It is designed specifically for ultralight multi-day endurance events and weight conscious backpackers and bike packers. Perfect for me! This bag utilises the best design and materials possible to maximise heat gain and minimise weight including 100% 1000 fill power European goose down. This down is the most expensive simply because of it’s rarity and it is the highest quality down available as it has the greatest loft. The bag has a typical operating temperature of 10 degrees Celsius which will accomodate for several months of the year and it packs down ridiculously small. Roll on some endurance events and adventures!
www.phdesigns.co.uk/delta-rac...
PHDesigns - Wafer Ultima K Down Jacket
Weighing in at just 185g (without hood) this jacket maximises warmth to weight ratio and will keep you warm down to freezing. Ideal to put on when you arrive at camp with a depleted body after a hard day moving. It uses the same 1000 fill power down as their sleeping bags and like all of PHDesigns gear it is made in the UK. Mine is a standard sized medium and fits me perfectly and I’m 6ft with a slim (ish) athletic build but like many of their garments you can order custom sizes to suit your body shape and size. No other compant seems to do that! It looks good, it feels good and due to it’s weight and pack size worth carrying even just for emergency situations. I’ll be wearing this a lot in all parts of my life!
www.phdesigns.co.uk/wafer-ult...
As always all love and positivity to you all and get outside and do what you can in life whilst your body is able.
Al

@@BUSHMANandBLUEMy less expensive Gravel bike is the Calibre lost lad and it's amazing value. I think on sale for £500 at go outdoors at the moment. I converted mine into a 1x for £30 and put some 2.1 XC mountain tyres on it and it's so fun and will do anything but still with the nice comfortable gravel bike position and a lot faster than a MTB. Absolutely perfect for adventure mode as also comes with all the mounts, including fork mounts which is unheard of at this price point 👍👍

I’ve had 4 pieces of the PHD gear over the years and can confirm that it is beautifully made and the warmth is every bit as good as the spec’ would have you believe. However, I’ve long since moved to quilts! ‘Stitch through’ on the bottom makes perfect sense, but because it’s a sleeping bag- the moment you roll onto your side, the bottom is now no longer the bottom! Roll onto your front, in a restrictive no-zip bag, the bottom now becomes the top. Twist and turn throughout the night and the top becomes the side becomes the bottom becomes cold!! A quilt simply stays still. The insulation stays on top regardless of how many times you turn over.
@BUSHMANandBLUE
@BUSHMANandBLUE 9 ай бұрын
That’s interesting. I’m a side sleeper and I actually rotate within the bag so the top is always up. As I’m sure you know PHD make several bag sizes so a wider bag so movement within might be easier. Quilts seem pretty good too especially if you have a decent mat. Top notch gear though👌

That sleeping bag does probably win in wamth-to-weight ratio but a comparable one that is quite a bit cheaper (about 1/3?) is the Cumulus Magic 100 at €199/215g/Tlimit 10 degrees. Those last 15g are expensive! Though for completeness the Magic is sewn-through on both sides so it may be less warm even though the ratings are the same, possibly.
@BUSHMANandBLUE
@BUSHMANandBLUE 9 ай бұрын
Yes PHD use a ‘typical operating temperature’ which isn’t comparable to others and it is more like a comfort rating. I guarantee it will be warmer although it comes down to money or winning over coming second. 👍👍👍

It really depends on the conditions. When below freezing the moisture just freezes on the inside of the Bivvy. When damp like this sometimes the moisture can be an issue if you were doing multi nights.

Given how often there is unpredictable rain (at least here in Sweden), a bivy bag with no tarp seems really problematic. Also 10 C sleeping bag wouldn't really work, my summer sleeping bag goes to 0 C comfort rating, it often dips below 10 C during night where I live.
