Your criteria for judging music is right on. It's all about how it makes you feel.

"You're just hangin out in a local bar And you're wonderin' who the hell you are Are you a farmer? Are you a star? " I can't explain but I've always loved these lines. They're funny and it's a great feel-good song.

❤️ so....almost 12 years ago, when my first grandchild was born, i had been at Winnie Palmer hospital all night and was there in the room during her birth. As i headed home, exhaused and extatic...i flipped radio channels just as they're belting out " keep on smilin' " n i pulled over to cry a little. I had never heard it. I stopped at our favorite local pub and went in. Asked my friends to help me find this song on the jukebox. We drank a toast to Ava ❤️. I still call this Ava's song ❤️.

Yeppers, this is a song that you can put on repeat and just listen to it over and over and over. Unfortunately, it was their only Top 10 single in the USA, but it was a banger enough that it made it into the Top 100 singles of 1974, charting at #66. Another favorite Wet Willie song, of mine, is a 1979 single they released called "Weekend". It charted to #29 in 1979, and was their last single to hit the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is a different style song from what you have played so far in that "Weekend" is a celebration/party/dance type song, and between 1979 and 1981, most Top 40 radio stations would play it at 5:00pm on Friday afternoon as an "official" start to kicking off the weekend. Starting in 1982, radio stations changed over to playing Loverboy's "Working for the Weekend" at 5:00pm on Friday afternoons, and some still do, but for me, Wet Willie's "Weekend" was the official kicking off the weekend song. If you decide to listen to it, be sure to listen to the LP/Album version as the 7" single / radio edit was cut very short, and this is a song that needs to be heard in it's entirety.

If people made more music like this now, we'd have a lot less depression among us. Coping Mechanism. Still speaks to me, bro.

I don't ever remember hearing Wet Willie before, I'm 66, I didn't get out very much! My husband has talked about them for years, if Shawn hadn't of listened to them I never would have heard them, now I might even search them out to hear more from them. I found the song and Shawn's reaction to it fantastic!

This is an uplifting song, and like you say, a good song doesn't have to be complex. Thinking of another song that makes me feel better when I hear it, Jimmy Cliff's I Can See Clearly Now. You'll love it, peace.

I know how you feel. This song hit me hard too. I kept listening to this song over and over. It helped me make the best decision of my life. It helped to finally get clean. The lyrics and the music hit home. That was over 30 years ago and I'm still clean. It kinda saved my life. I still tear up listening to it. Great reaction and hopefully this song can help someone to do the right thing for themselves.

Lot of great songs from the 70s, this is probably my fav. from a home state band. This song played more than any other song on the Jukebox, I think the Rolling Stones "Beast of Burden was a close 2nd.

Wet Willie is the epitome of southern rock. Such an upbeat song and message. I have a live version of this song on my playlist now. I have loved them ever since I first saw them open for Johnny Winters, they just blew the roof off. I got emotional watching you get emotional knowing that I was so blessed to have lived through some of the greatest music ever and got to experience it first hand when it first came out. It was magical times for me and I truly wish that you could have been there, just so many musical moments and I get to relive them through your eyes and it really really made my day. Thank you Shawn!

I saw Wet Willie at the Fillmore East, NYC in the early seventies they were unforgettable. Such a good time, I’ll never forget that night. They opened for the trio of Jeff Beck, Tim Bogart, and Carmine Apice.

@@keithr-xj7zx it might have been the Capitol Theater. They might have opened for Traffic or Lee Michaels. I might have saved the program…I look for it tomorrow. I just remember being in the third row and both theaters were similar in some ways but I remember and loved the Fillmore for a lot of reasons.

Some really good memories attached to this band. My BFF and I would grab a six pack jump in her car and put this tape in the eight track player, a book of matches stuck under the tape so it would play right, hit the dirt and sing this song as loud as we could. Here is some live stuff just so you can grab a little culture from the time, kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3_ZqWSHp517gNUsi=NVEL8y3hGRutExo_

So heres the deal . The powers to be want us controlled . They want to keep power over us . Its not easy , dont let them win , just keep on smiling . This pisses them off . Thats why this classic got you emotional , which is just fine because deep down inside we want to just keep on smiling.
