Movies would be better if they actually took your advice. Expecially Blum house. For me I’ve noticed ever since Halloween ends, blumhouse has been in a sense rushing their movies not really giving it any thought or time and that scares me for the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie coming out.

Giving the sense that Five nights at Freddy’s was shot back to back with the exorcist only giving Five Nights at Freddy’s a three month shoot tells me that Blum house is too focused on pushing movies out instead of actually making them top-tier

so many missed opportunities that could’ve made this movie way better. the fact that both of the girls were main characters but only angela and her father were the main focus of the movie. I hated how in the end they showed angela’s father at her moms grave but showed nothing to pay homage towards katherine. only showing an empty seat…

I think we will get something like The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby trilogy. I remember a scene from the trailer where two families with both girls alive were posing for photo in a church. So, is it possible that the filmmakers gave us some sort of a spoiler for the next chapter? What if Katherine isn't dead? What if she is in coma and the whole "The Exorcist: Deceiver" thing will be about her father struggling to save his daughter and wake her up? It's quite easy to consider him the Deceiver whose ignorance led to sacrificing his daughter's life, if we agree that Angela's father is the Believer. And we saw neither Katherine's dead body (at least in the way priest's body was shown), nor her funeral🤔 I believe it's possible that the next chapter will tell us the very same story, but from the Katherine's family perspective. And then the third movie will be like a grand finale with all perspectives, all shit coming together

I just got back from seeing it at IMAX and I agree with both of your reviews (non spoiler & this one). I think the fact that they didn’t pay ANY attention to Katherine and her family while her possession was taking place was a HUGE miss!! Why would her father say “this is God punishing us” when they got to the house and it’s already destroyed inside and Katherine’s just free to walk around and do whatever. Had they focused more on her and her family then that would’ve DEFINITELY made her death scene/dragged to hell scene THAT much darker and more powerful. Like you, I give it a 6/10. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to see Regan at the end that’s for sure lol

Here’s what honestly kills me about the movie. For as much as I wanted to leave in the last 20 mins, I felt like there was 40 minutes of the movie missing somewhere. The priest talking to the council to approve the exorcism - he says to them how he’s evaluated and spent so much time with the girls. We never saw him spend 5 mins with them! We didn’t see how their bodies degraded, we never got to see any of that. The exorcism looked like exactly what it was - 4 or 5 people who had seen exorcism movies and tried to perform an exorcism. It was such a mess.

Could u tell me what drugs u took before watching this turd of a movie. Either u were on horse tranquilizers and tripping balls or have no taste in cinema. How was this boring trite mess good? I went I'm with low expectations and that usually means I will be pleasantly surprised. That was my experience with The Nun 2, Saw X and a far superior exorcism movie The Pope's Exorcist. I came out of this shitshow thinking all the negative buzz didn't go far enough. I can handle bad horror but boring is way worse and this movie had me bored out of my mind from the start and it never got better. Ann Dowd had to be stunt casting because she was the main draw for me. She was boring as well. No real character development, poorly shot and the sound wasn't effective either and I saw it in a Dolby theater. Easily one of the worst movies of the year and maybe top 5 worst horror movies of all time. Again, what shrooms were u on to like this cause they must be damn good. I want some; not to see this again. I never will. I would stick a crucifix in both eyes if I had to. No, I just would like to be that high.

I've seen so many people say: "this had potential, the set up was actually good and showed promise, but it just completely falls apart later." I know they paid $400million for the rights so they could make a trilogy, but I wonder if they could have actually had something if they simply focused on making ONE film, ONE story? It's been awhile, but I read the novel the movie's based on (read it more than once). As I recall, Chris was preparing to go in with the priest, they couldn't forbid her, but they heavily advised against it. It was implied that if Regan couldn't be saved, Chris shouldn't be burdened with the final menories of her daughter dying during an Exorcism. Also in the book, Chris enters the room to give Regan an injection. Even during the Exorcism, Chris was trying to rigidly follow the doctor's orders because this ritual was a "forced suggestion" and Regan's medical needs still needed to be tended to. However, the stress of everything was too much for Chris and she left the room. She was so distraught she couldn't give her daughter the injection she needed. But okay...sure...the "patriarchy" makes more sense 🙄.

Although there were a couple of jump scares, the story line was contrived and exhausting. The cameos were the only redeeming factor to this movie. After finally making it to the credits, I noticed it was produced by the same people who produce the illustrious Halloween Ends…. That's all I needed to see to understand why this movie was so far off in left field. Was it scary? No. thought provoking? No. Cinematic? Maybe a little. Worth $15? Certainly not. I still think its hilarious that Chris's ENTIRE ROLE was pretty much shown in the trailer. 🤣 or at least 99.9% of it minus the brief dialogue in the hospital after her attack. I'm honestly relieved to hear that David Gordon Green may not direct the next 2 installments. This one had potential but they missed so many opportunities.

You do realize that is exactly what ALL sequels are right? They don't make sequels to any movie in the history of movies because they have a great idea. They are literally made because a movie makes money, certain special people pretend some bad movies are so beloved and so a decision is made that hey lets make a sequel so we can make money. People really need to stop throwing around the word "cash grab" nobody is making sequels to anything for "love"

The first act was good. Everything else was corporate garbage that feels like it was intended to be inclusive but just watered down the good v evil theme of the original. The film seems to argue that a witch-doctor, a generic protestant minister and a wanna-be nun would speak to a demon with the same authority as a Catholic priest, which is just hilarious.

Had to stop at the brick wall comment and reply, absolutely agree up until Chris’s appearance it was actually decent but then it all goes to shit. Maybe someone correct me as I haven’t read Legion (it’s never mentioned in the film version) but did DGG steel the idea of a Chris MacNeil and a Regan’s relationship disintegrating because of her book and the fame she found because of it straight out of the Exorcist tv series? Because that was the whole reason Regan went no contact with her mother and changed her name/identity in the show. Also of all the names to chose thru went with Angela and Katherine? Once again absolute rip off from the series. Mother’s name was Angela and her daughter was Katherine/Kat.

I thought it was implicit that the "patriarchy" line was a dig at the church and it's frankly man-made rules, not Karras & Merrin. I read it as a Burstyn addition, referencing the era she lived through, which was heavily patriarchal as f--k. Unnecessary line for sure, but not the egregious thing everyones going with because of that guy's tweet (which left out Odom Jr chuckle, which implied the line is only half serious).

Maybe the reason it feels like it's in the Halloween Kills / Ends world is that Pazuzu had possessed Michael and was trapped there for years but in Ends he left Michael's body but had permanently fucked his mind, which is why he was so weak but still evil. That *body in the blood* scene was to compare to 1973 regans *You're ganna die up there* as she said it in undertone wispering and peeing on the piving room carpet. I think believers phycotic break was more disturbing and horrificly visually effective. The grape juice that simbolised christ blood she was covered in looked gory as hell. And the fact that it happened in church infront if a whole congregation was more traumatic then Dispaying behavior problems infront of a small group of actors and family friends in your living room. Katherin was agressive in those moments and apeared to be madterbating in her seat though it was very subtle. The whole thing realshowed the progress of posession and how agressive this was.

I just watched this movie and my verdict is it's mostly trash with some good points here and there that unfortunately do nothing to cover the overall stench. I found the pregnant woman at the start to be condescending, disrepectful, and annoying. I had some idea I was supposed to like her, but it felt like they were trying way too hard to make her likeable and it just backfired for me. The scene where they went into an obviously Catholic Church and started snapping photos, and she loudly proclaims something about the love of Jesus being on the walls, was like nails on a chalkboard for me. That is not how you behave in a Catholic Church, like have some damn respect already. Speaking of respect, or lack thereof, I just loved the way they showed inclusiveness by utilising disrespectful portrayals of people of faith, and people experiencing homelessness. According to this film, until it suits you otherwise at least, people with any sort of faith are either hypocrites with anger issues or weirdos who talk in tongues and let themselves into your house uninvited to perform a blessing without your consent, and people who are experiencing homelessness can be counted on to eventually say something incredibly inappropriate and creepily sexual. And as I already feared from the trailers, the movie failed hard on Catholicism 101 (at this point I should note that I'm not Catholic myself, but my Father was raised Catholic, was old enough to have experienced the changes of Vatican II first had, and a small number of his relations also entered holy orders). 1: The nurse talking about entering a convent as a novitiate and that she got to choose her spiritual name, eh wrong! You enter a convent as a postulant and your spiritual name is bestowed upon you when you take the vows of an novitiate (some convents will allow you to have some input, but ultimately the name is still chosen for you, not the other way around) 2: The rite of major exorcism can only be performed by a Priest or Bishop who has received Church approval, so why then did it seem like everything was planned in advance, set up and ready to go when the actual Priest hadn't yet received permission to perform the rite? (sense, this makes none) 3: Priests would approach the diocesan or Arch diocesan Bishop to seek approval to perform an exorcism, not Bishop plus however many other random Priests 4: Just because that Priest wasn't given approval doesn't mean the Exorcism wouldn't be approved at all, considering the circumstances, and evidence presented, it is far more likely it would have been approved just with a specific Priest chosen for the job 5: The rule of who now? I suppose if you squint hard enough you could make something in the Rule of St Benedict relate to the exorcism of a possessed child, but firstly the Rule of St Benedict is primarily concerned with how monasteries and convents are run (not how secular folks conduct their business), and secondly there's a whole chapter on humility, which I'm pretty sure doesn't include a former novitiate, who has returned to secular life, being given the verbal equivalent of, 'atta girl', and sent in to participate in an exorcism on the say so of a Priest who failed to get Church approval in the first place. That's not how this works, that's not how any of this works. I scored this movie 1/5 (1 point for some of the performances, zero points for everything else).
