Good people all, this Christmastime, remember well, and bear in mind...... Thank you AntPDC; Wexford was the most Normanised/Anglicised of Irish counties following the 1169 invasion. Almost every parish had it's own carol - I've heard some of them on RTÉ Radio; many were just as beautiful as this one - sadly few survive .

It's a great shame those old carols weren't collected for posterity. I wonder whether some of them still lie hidden in parish church records? I guess not though, since notation came much later, although the aural tradition is a strong one. For example, Percy Grainger and Vaughan Williams collected a great many folk-tunes just by having the locals perform them.

Some of them are still sung in the parishes and have been recorded - somewhere on KZbin I saw mention of a CD or LP Record (showing my age ;-)) of recordings of some of these carols. In Ireland too we had our great collectors of songs and stories - especially in the 1930's by The Folklore Commission / An Comiseáin Béaloideasa who travelled the length and breadth of the country and recorded the material at source so to speak. Thanks for all the wonderful music again, by any chance could you upload a piece called elegy for strings by Haigh Marshall? I’ve not heard it for a long time and cannot seem to find it anywhere or know anyone who has heard of it.
