Great video at Weymouth Weymouth and ME. When i was 2 years old back in 1967 my late parents took me on holiday every June until i was 9/10 years old. We travelled down by train from Birmingham New St Station, having changed at Bristol Temple Meads station (i think) At around the age of 7 we were picked up by car from Weymouth and taken to Charmouth and Lyme Regis for the day during or holiday as my maternal relatives lived there and my relative's husband had a great big Jaguar car so enough room I remember my extended paternal family always saying how did my dad pick June and always have great weather? Perhaps it was the luck of the draw!!! We always stayed at The Electra Hotel on the esplanade, opposite what was W H Smith The owners welcomed us every year. There was always plenty to do and see and as i became a little older we went to the Pavilion Theatre to see whatever was on at the time. Also the Punch and Judy Show was great. The sea and sand was just great for making sandcastles and i remember going to see the famous sand sculptures done by the same man over many years. My dad died in 2002 but my mom died in June 19 from Dementia and Cancer aged 93 I needed a holiday so i came down to Weymouth August 19 and met up with the same relatives but obviously 45 + years hence and its just as i remembered Weymouth. Nothing has really changed. which was pleasing to me Plenty to do and the beach is great. I even went to see Punch and Judy show. A little bit of history i wish to point out. You may be aware of this but if you are then never mind The Electra Hotel. I have been watching a lot of black and white British Films from the late 50's and 60's and one film i saw was called THE DAMNED released in 1961 and i thought to myself the filming locations look like Weymouth. I then saw Oliver Reed standing outside the Electra Hotel and blow me IT WAS WEYMOUTH. I was always taken for something to eat during the day to an place on the front called FORTE'S Plenty of fish and chips and coffee's tea's and milk shakes and ice-cream and i always had a Knickerbocker Glory. It was 1930's decorative style back then and you walked up some stairs to another level of tables. This was one of the MILK BARS that LORD CHARLES FORTE (he of the hotel chain that was) opened in UK it must have been around the mid to late 1930's just before the Second World War I will be hoping to get to Weymouth again in 2022 once everything gets back to a 'NEW NORMAL'!!

Nice video of Weymouth, and very informative! Thanks for posting :) I spent many weekends in Weymouth when I was young in the 90s. My parents owned a caravan at Haven's Weymouth Bay and let it out to holidaymakers. We would drive into Weymouth from Southampton most weekends to clean it ready for the next people. I have videos of Weymouth Harbour and Portland that my grandparents filmed in the early 90s. It's interesting to see what's changed, and what's stayed the same

Thanks Quagmi - it's interesting looking back at historical photos and videos from the town, as you say, some things have changed, yet others remain complerely the same.

Enjoyable video, Weymouth looks like a nice place. Just a general point, why do some of our seaside resorts have a busy main road cutting off the town from the beach? I would definately like to see that busy road closed or restricted to traffic. Just my opinion.

Awesome video I think that the shingle beach is quieter because people with children would want a Sandy beach so the kids can make sand castles you can't do that on a shingle beach
