Mets fans gotta just relax and calm down. If the Mets sign Burnes and trade for Crochet nobody is complaining about Montas anymore. The best part about the signing which Mets fans are ignoring is he doesn’t have to be Manaea or Severino but he does eat innings. Stearns is old school with how he builds lineups and his starting pitching rotation he likes righty, lefty, righty, lefty and so on.

Seeing that Montas was just signed and for that amount of money. I think the Mets would be best off trading for Luis Castillo more now then ever. Obviously it all comes down to Juan Soto. But I’d love to see signings of Soto, Alonso and trades for Luis Castillo and Possibly Devin Williams if available. Also look to see about bringing back Robertson on a one year deal for the bullpen

That's not the right way to look at it. No team is filling every position on the 26 man roster with the most expensive player available, and that includes the Dodgers. Spending $17m on a fifth starter is hardly being cheap. They clearly see somwthing in Montas that they feel they can fix, as they did last year with several other pitchers.

It is certainly not risky, not at that price. It may or may not be a lousy signing; we'll see. While I really don't like Montas, it is hard to argue with the success that current Mets' management has had. Those guys are a lot smarter than we are.
