Jon Mitchell actually even the states that pay fairly good are not able to attract applicants. Texas is doing pretty good with applicants because they have near six figure salaries after the second year of working.

+John Johnson correction, They WILL relocate you and it goes all the way down to the florida keys, keep in mind that the keys are a tourists area and property values are as high as they can possibly be and you, as a trooper, won't be able to afford not even a trailer down there, bottom line you'll end up working for the sheriff's office as a deputy.

Hmmm difficult decision if you want to be a cop in Florida. Be a trooper or apply to agencies in S. Florida where you'll not only start out at $20-$30K more than FHP starts you out, but your pay steps will considerably increase while the state continues to with their measly pay scale. Some examples of starting pay for non-certified officers is this: FHP $38,034 Hollywood: $61,229 Ft. Lauderdale $63,440 Aventura $63,927 Boca Raton $72,683

fbigov10chad until last month Georgia was the 49th lowest paid. They just got a 20% raise, only because they are now almost 40% short staffed. They had 950 troopers 10 years ago and now have less than 600. They don't even have enough troopers to cover 24hr coverage. In Atlanta they only have one trooper working the weekend daytime shifts. One trooper for the entire metro Atlanta area or 4 whole counties.
@fbigov10chad7 жыл бұрын
when i was a trooper in NC, we had about 1300 to 1450 troopers on the road, and we were short! where i live now i think they have about 400 to 450 on the road. its a rough time for all states for sure. i thought Georgia had a pretty good pay scale as you made time with the agency? then again, leave it to a state legislature to "freeze" those increases then yeah, pay would suck.

powwowasu best of luck. It takes about a year after you apply, not to mention about 1/50 applicants are offered an invitation to the academy. Turnover is about half the troopers in 5 years. Plus you get sent to whatever of the 67 counties they decide. You’ll be AAA with a gun working crashes with calls pending. The positive is you can work a ton of OT. Best seat at the best show in town. You’ll deal with a bunch of upper brass that will toss you aside in a heartbeat. You’ll get paid. You’ll love the hat, then hate wearing it.

Austin Bollinger I am from Florida. The Governor just approved FHP 5 percent raise. But yes our troopers are the lowest paid. But FHP has room for advancing. FHP also provides off duty work where they can earn extra money. I'm not a trooper myself. I work for a small Florida department. I get to work with a lot of troopers because its a rural area.

I retired to Florida two years ago. The traffic system really sucked from lack of enforcement. I haven't seen a traffic stop in the cities or highway. It was liked wild west where drivers drove at excess speed and basically drove reckless. The reason was they couldn't find enough cops. CHP in Calif started at $95,000 right out of academy, FHP started at low 30s.

Hell nooooooooo not enough troopers due to the low pay and the bullshit they have to deal with. All professional careers such as engineers, doctors, bus drivers are well compensated. The state of Florida is a sham. They want to have employees at almost no cost or very little cost to the state. Embarrassing to even come out and portray themselves as an agency that has a shortage due to retirements. Well, I tell you this, right now in dade county 15 newly recruited troopers are leaving in less than 3 months to other agencies, and the same pattern is seen throughout the state. Definitely would not put my life at risk for 33k a year. The hell with the new car. A new car will not pay bills. Worst state agency in the union. They are not even on the 911 system because we are not 911 responders. Go ahead, analyze that with a drink of koolaid, FHP’s favorite drink.

I would love to be a trooper, but in a state with lots of guns and people that hate cops, mixed with a salary of 33k, it kind of slumps the "In it to help people" thing. What I will say though about NY and FL though, as I was originally a NY resident and now reside in Florida, is our police forces and how they operate are absolutely contrasting. NY troopers are absolute ass holes and don't care about anyone or anything besides the blue wall. I don't think I go to work a single day without seeing a FHP unit helping someone along the highway to is broke down or in need of assistance, with no tickets issued. That's part of the reason I want to be a trooper, but at the same time I need to provide for my family alive, and at that point I still can barely provide at 33k.

Law enforcement is a career that is not all about pay. If the pay and what you assume cops do daily are what makes up your mind then law enforcement is not right for you. Yes there are bad cops out there but not all are like that. Having an interaction with them that did not go how you would like should not make you all of a sudden believe they are all the same. If you did something that could get you pulled over then that's on you. You're an adult start taking responsibility for your actions. I do not live in Florida but I do live in a southern state. I do plan on joining the highway patrol in the future. The pay is not that much higher than Florida but to me it is not about the pay. Start off small working in the state you live in and once you get some experience you can move higher to the federal level where the pay is much higher. You cannot get the higher paying jobs if you lack experience so you have to start from the bottom and move your way up in whatever way is needed. Nothing in life is just going to be handed to you. You have to put in the effort and earn it. If how much you get paid on the job is the most important thing to you then you are going to reach a point where the struggle is too much and you fall into depression. I myself know LEOs personally who have been on the job for many years and make less than 40000 but when they talk about the job they never say anything about the pay. They enjoy what they do and that is all that matters to them. Some may say that when you have a family to support how much you get paid matters. But can you really say that you are supporting them because you have a high paying job but at the same time you do not like the job too much? No and the reason why is because even though some think it's worth it because they are able to support their family it really is not because being miserable at work will affect you to the point where you would even take your own life to get out of the situation and then now your family has lost you and will never get you back and now they are forever affected by that. That is not the proper way to support a family. Of course not being able to support them with the job you have can make you do the same but when you think about it it is a lose-lose. Life is hard and it will push you to your limits. Also everybody has a different mindset so having a different opinion about something than someone else whether it's positive or negative is not a bad thing. Maybe you don't agree with all I just said but just know that it's the way I see the situation with the highway patrol. If you feel different that is cool with me and however you feel about it or about me based on what I have said that's cool too. I respect the opinions of other people.

I chuckled when the female trooper said she wanted to do something that meant something. Listen sister, extorting money from folks doing 5-10 miles over the fake speed limit doesn't "serve or protect" anyone other than your local corrupt politicians. If you want a career that helps other people, be an EMT, a fireman or a dog catcher. Every one of those positions gets my respect...but cops? It's hard to respect professionally trained liars and thieves.

youve obviously never been a first responder so i'll let ya know if it wasnt for cops then emts and firefighters would be almost useless. you think a medical responder is gonna respond to some sort of assault without protection, they wont. without cops on scene of a car wreck people just fly by stupidly endangering rescuers plus people these days lose their shit when they dont have someone telling them what to do. you ever seen a car wreck at an intersection without someone directing traffic? i have, and people dont have a god damn clue what to do. their job is very important, if you dont wanna be extorted for money then grow a fucking brain and dont break traffic laws or better yet talk to your LAW MAKERS.

I'm sure what he meant was that when Robots replace police officers the robots will actually follow the fucking rules and law. They wont get scared about a chihuahua and shoot em in self defense. They won't go fishing unless they're programed to. They won't protect each other when one breaks the law because as I mentioned before they won't be breaking the law. They won't murder more people than actual murderers do. They will actually be wanted more than the gang they have out there now. When you call the gang your rolling the dice with who comes to "help" you. They will actually protect you with their... robot lives... unlike every other officer who has no obligation to protect anyone but themselves. Robots will NOT have more rights than your average citizen. If a robot fucks up they will be terminated or reprogrammed, you know.. Actually doing something instead of the robot "resigning" and taking another role in another city. I could keep going for awhile but I'll stop now. The way of the future is phasing out gang members for tools that do the fucking job. They'd be safer. Probably cheaper after all the lawsuits are accounted for.
