It's sad to say, but there are parents who trust the wrong people and there are parents who just don't care. Predators put themselves in positions to earn the child's and parent's trust. I've also read cases where the parents themselves prostituted their children! Some had said their parents had done it to them or they are on drugs, but their past and the drugs don't decide for them, they chose to abuse their own children. People like that shouldn't have the ability to procreate, but at least their children are safe and have rehabilitated.

The only problem is that he has already accused, tried, judged guilty, and is punishing through public shame on national news. He is reporting this crime as an absolute, not an allegation, so there is no way there will be a fair trial now. Yes, what these people did was horrific, and they should be locked away if found guilty. But it's dangerous for law enforcement to report crimes as a certainty, because it sets a prescient that normalizes it. Unfortunately, the next corrupt officer will take advantage of it to harm people. To falsely accuse someone who will never get their life and reputation back after being publicly exposed as a criminal. We have a court system with jury of our peers for a reason... because law enforcement officers can't all be trusted to stay fair and impartial. Edit: He is also putting the perpetrator in serious danger, because now any vigilante may decide to go punish/kill them instead of waiting for a trial.

Anyone who has been sexually abused: I can't know what you've been through and I don't know what to say that can help. I can only imagine to the smallest degree the fear & pain from having been abused mentally & emotionally. I've been treated for PTSD using EMDR with excellent results. It allows the person to recall the past experiences without the accompanying emotions. I've used it also for after severe car accidents that gave me PTSD, so I could drive comfortably again. I wish I had something special to say. But, I found a saying once that helped me: "The past cannot be changed. But the future is whatever you want it to be."
