It`s clear that the areas hit were not as ready as they thought they were. To many people have way to much junk on their yard. Most of the damage I saw were car ports blowing around, Sheds and plastic fences. Lots of trash cans and lawn furniture. These items are what do most of the damage as they hit your home and vehicles. Two days before the storm here on the East Coast people were lined up for hours to fill their tank and gas cans. I'm not waiting in line for gas so I went put at midnight and filled up. I was the only person at the pump. I will still have gas by the time the tankers start rolling again.

Totally unprepared....barely 2 days past a second storm, and the expectation for power/fuel is now, now, now..... Some of you need to learn how the power grid is rebuilt.... and furthermore, some of you need to learn some survival skills.... Many fail to prepare for the situation and then complain when you're standing there with your junk in your hand and no food, water or fuel. I just don't get that...I keep my truck filled with gas a couple extra gas cans, a case of water, some cans of chunky soup, a first aid kit, a jump pak, and other incidentals depending on the season... I've worked many mutual aid situations and am always mystified on how many people I saw walking around like zombies totally unprepared on how to survive more than a day or two, especially when there were days and days worth of warning...

My husband was out in the middle of the storm turning on those generators, so those elders had a bit of power and the oxygen they needed to breathe. They were warned and warned before the storm ever made landfall! Why didn't they stock up beforehand? It's called "emergency preparedness" and "common sense." I always have a minimum of five gallons of gas set aside in my shed, and my car averages 32 to 40 MPG. I always have emergency water & food for myself and my dog, emergency supplies in my car, emergency cash, and everything important gathered in one place so I can grab my valuables and legal documents and be out of the house in minutes. If my power is out for an extended period of time, I built an outdoor cooking area out of free salvaged bricks & materials that doesn't rely on propane. If I don't have heat I have adequate blankets, instant warming packs, hot water bottles that I can fill with water boiled on my outdoor cooking area, LED candles, conventional candles, flashlights, batteries, and an old-school Touch Tone phone that I can use with my landline connection that doesn't rely on electricity or WIFI. Yes, in a disaster, we need help from the outside, but there's a certain amount of personal responsibility that is solely on us BEFORE anything happens to begin with.

We went through this same exact thing on the other coast back in the early 2000's. First power was out to the gas stations so the pumps didn't work, then the gas stations has power but the port didn't have power so they couldn't get the gas out of the tanks at the port to deliver to the gas stations. Now many of our local gas stations have generators, I'm not sure if the port does but I sure hope they do by now. Why the west coast didn't make the same changes I'm not sure, but this is just history repeating in a slightly different location. Apparently no one learns. Also if a storm is coming, fill several cans so you've got a few days of gas for your car and generator. This won't help if your house blows away obviously, but if you survive the storm it definitely helps.

A tanker only holds so many gallons of fuel. It makes zero sense to truck fuel in from Louisiana or Texas. It's brought in by ships from Texas and Louisiana refineries. A tanker truck holds around 13,000 gallons. A tanker ship depending on size holds from 3 to 8 million gallons for the smaller ones to 8 to 15 million gallons for the larger ones. You would need around 615 tanker trucks to haul 8 million gallons of gas.

They're opening 4 more locations in the morning. That's a Governor that cares about the people.
