Anybody? Hurricane Michael 10/10/2018 followed the exact same path and formation begin area as this one and this has warmer waters Mike was a full cat 5 and destroyed 7 counties in the panhandle.

You know, that is so funny you say that. I thought Michael was a Cat 1. I agree it did MUCH DAMAGE; just goes to show you, even a Cat 1 can do a LOT of damage, if it's a direct hit. I will have to look that up, though. I don't recall it being a Cat 5.

I looked it up, and you are right. Let's hope that the factors affecting this one keep it down. I was here on the west coast just as I am now, but apparently didn't have much to worry about. I remember Irma, though, as two massive limbs from the Jacarada trees came down and I was without power for 6 days. That was the pits. Maybe Michael didn't come as close as Irma or something.

Well, I actually disagree with previous commenter, and here's why. I live in Citrus County on the west coast of state, and we aren't supposed to get "outer bands" before 8 am on Thursday. It would appear to me, it should hit my area before Jacksonville. It depends on how cautious the airlines are. I would think if you could "take off" promptly at 6am, you might be able to "beat the storm." Hope it goes well for you.

The center of the storm will hit Citrus county before Jax but the storms bands will be hitting Jax possibly by that time. They will actually be coming of the Atlantic bc of the size of the storm. I would plan for both possibilities.

I think she means the "worst impacts" will be closer to the "eye of the storm," but the storm itself is actually "widespread," so it's both really. That happened with Irma in 2017. That storm covered the ENTIRE STATE, but barrelled right up the middle of the state, so those furtherest away from the "center" on either coast just got outer bands and "lighter winds." That was my first hurricane in Sarasota; I was SO NERVOUS. But, it wasn't too bad for me, and many people drove to Sarasota to get away from the "center." Hope this clarifies things for you.

Its gonna be moving too fast to grow into an expansive storm. This is also gonna limit intensity. One more thing.. there's a bit of shear nearer to FL as well. The may not wind up being a major (or at least not over a minimum major) because of those factors. I've been through a few cat3 eyeballs and they weren't a big deal. Cat5? different story I went through Andrew's cat5 eyeball. not good. Most cat5's are small, fast moving storms (like Mike, Charlie, Andrew).

No. The worst of the winds are ALWAYS right under the NE quadrant's eyewall... NOT in the outer bands displaced away from the eyewall. That's where you find most of the tornadoes. However those tornadoes are always EFO's at best (which we're stormed up for anyway) AND they rarely reach the ground (so WHY even mention them (forecasters back in the day never did)?).
