So I always figured caudal anesthesia was used in conjunction with MAC, like an epidural or spinal- Why do you do it if you already have the kid intubated? Post op pain control? Balanced anesthesia?

It decreases intraoperatively inhaled anesthetics, thus decreasing the adverse effects.

It's measured in kpa rather than mmHg. Normal PaCO2 values fluctuate between 35 and 45 mmHg (4.7-6 kPa). So you're right, that child isn't breathing well.
