I saw this live at finals, and I now I'm watching the cymbal feature at 4:10 over and over and over and over because I just can't comprehend it's awesomeness.

This show is absolutely beautiful. I think a "band" (any section or as a whole) performing this makes it that more meaningful. I was in concert band for 7 years, marching band for 5, and I played clarinet until my junior year. Band always felt like family but when I joined the drumline my junior year it was so different. We had done indoor my freshman and sophomore years and I played vibes. I loved it but... The line was my place. It was my home and my family. I know that this isn't just about a place of belonging and all but when the voiceover said there are bonds stronger than blood, I broke. A member of our band died my senior year and it just hit home. Amazing concept and amazing performance. Congrats you guys.

As far as music is concerned, Pulse killed it. Very clean, very skillful. I'm just having a hard time digging the show design; to me it feels more like a high school play than an indoor drum line show. Still, congrats to Pulse on first place.

+Connor Rakestraw I'd have to agree: the fewer voiceovers and vocal samples, the better. Excess props are also distracting, unless it's going after the humour route (or just showing off how many props you can fit into a single show).
@gmdille8 жыл бұрын
+Dr. Duck: gaming the slow way I agree. I understand it's really hard to tell a new, compelling story every year, but I would be totally fine with more music and less voiceovers, even if it meant the story suffered. To me, the music should come first, always.
@petesmith6638 жыл бұрын
+Connor Rakestraw When i first saw the beds in preseason, i thought what the hell is this? This is either going to suck or be fantastic. After the seeing the Cookies KZbin orphan video that this based on and knowing these 2 designers, I was pretty sure it was going to be great. I guess the finals judges agreed.
@petesmith6638 жыл бұрын
+Connor Rakestraw This is the highest talent level in a drumline that I have ever seen. At the end of the first day of auditions in Sept, I told John Mapes that I thought there was enough talent to win WGI. Not only that, after seeing the hundreds of people that tried out, i thought they could have fielded a third WGI Indep World finalist. I think he agreed, but said they didn't have enough time to support all that. He was also doing Chino Hills this year. There are only so many hours in a day. Some of the kids that got cut from Pulse and POW ended up in some of the other 4 WGI World finalists from SoCal.

it was all about the bass this year. would've liked to see more tenors in the spotlight! i also was personally more impressed with Rhythm X's show this year, but they got 4th..guess that's why I'm not a judge. still a great show as always.

That's how I felt! Rhythm X brought it this year and had a great performance. They were robbed of a medal. RCC had a decent performance but I felt like #thealpha should've won

+Beach Dreams The bass drummers were all rookies. But not your average rookies. There are Blue Devils (BD section leader), Blue Stars and I think Blue Coats in there. So I think you can appreciate why they were featured so much. They were monster from the first day of auditions thru finals.

Ya'll... Please go watch Cookies Vibe 2015. This Pulse Percussion group got their entire theme from one of my favorite dance sets from one of the most distinguished hip hop dance teams out there. Hopefully they gave some kind of credit? Otherwise this is some serious plagiarizing and honestly pisses me off...

+tomatoesandcacti To begin, I took a quick peek at your profile to see if you watch any drumlines or if you are a guy that is into the marching arts, which, if I am correct, you are not. To explain how I came across your comment, I was decided to see if there are any professional dance groups that I could compare Pulse's opening sequence to. I was a little disappointed and pissed off when the first video I clicked on happened to be the Cookies Vibe 2015 show, so I came to the comment section for some help. I was upset that Pulse stole from that show. And trust me, Pulse is my favorite WGI group, so I know how your feeling about them ripping off of another group. It's very clear that they stole the bed idea and the opening dance sequence from Cookies show. And yes, the opener music was (for a fact) the music that Cookies used in their show. However, after further inspection and some calming down, I thought about the rest of the show and even parts of the opener. Once all of their drums were on, the show became their own. And that's the same for Cookies after they dropped the blankets (though their show was their own since the beginning). The writers for Pulse were inspired by Cookies show, and used a few similar concepts, but the entire show is it's own story after the drums are put on. The arrangements of Cookies song and Annie were something that the composers for Pulse had to write for percussion, making them their own style, and ok to use. To cover the plagiarism aspect you speak of, I'm sorry to say that there is none. Yes, their are similar concepts, but you have to remember, this is an art (and very similar to dance in a lot of ways). In most performance arts, their are many groups that borrow concepts from others. Think about how many shows there are about love, industry, heaven/hell, rebellion, etc. For specific show ideas, there are many upon the lines of: Dante's Inferno, Demons vs. Angels, The Apple of Eden, Apocalypse, Native Americans, The Lost Boys (Peter Pan), Fairy Tales, The 1920s, etc. I hope this all helps you understand and not be upset with them. I encourage you to watch some other drumline shows to see how dance fits into it all. (Northcoast Academy 2011; Northcoast Academy 2012; Infinity Percussion 2016; Pulse 2014; RCC 2015; RCC 2016; MCM 2010; MCM 2011; MCM 2016; Stryke 2015; Rhythm X 2010; Rhythm X 2013; Broken City 2016)
