About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

The video here is in pristine condition! One of the best news openings ever. I love that montage of images and the music. I used to wish they'd let the music go on much longer! Thank you!

Wow...the old Woods Theater right at the beginning of the montage. When the Loop was the place to go without fear. I loved NightBeat. I would get off work and watch the program, then the movie that followed. It was a nice way to wind down and it felt like I was the only person awake and that made NightBeat seem so personal. Life was so much simpler and better.

At 19:20 the newscast mentions Dan Pecaro , WGN executive . I went to college at the same college with his son and had a class with him . This same class went on a day field trip and toured the WGN facility in Chicago . Mr. Pecaro said at the time he worked through the ranks at WGN including working the cameras at the baseball games at Wrigley Field . We even sat in the control room during the Bozos Circus live telecast . The director and the staff were cheering the children to do well while playing the Grand Prize Game . WGN was a well run class organization !

So much awesomeness in this clip. I wonder why at one time the news thought it appropriate to identity accident victims or people identified as “criminals” by full name and physical address? I’ve noticed this from all clips from 70s-80s....
