So Alice Cooper was actually on Hollywood Squares? Wow!

Now I remember that Hollywood Squares was only in Las Vegas for one season before it went off the air and I distinctly remember that it was shown in Chicago on WLS channel 7. How did WGN also get to show the same season?
@newstarcadefan7 жыл бұрын
Yup, that was when NBC cancelled the show in 1980 (One of the casualties of David Letterman's new 90-minute show mind you). The other shows I remember reading that were cancelled were Chain Reaction and Card Sharks.

"Card Sharks" wasn't cancelled, but it was moved to noon, where it began to decline in ratings. You're thinking of "High Rollers".

Ah, thanks for that correction. Though being pushed to a time where most NBC stations in the east and the west had the midday news wasn't exactly a good thing either.

maybe an issue with the audio channel? it seems like a very specific frequency (around 1050hz) that i could only imagine could *maybe* be a signal of some form??

That tone would later be used for the Emergency Alert System when it replaced EBS
@0xEARTH3 жыл бұрын
nah, that's not right; the EAS attention sound is two-toned at 853 and 960 MHz; and the SAME Tones are multi-toned (since they carry data) and only vaguely around the same key (at ~C) as this
@LunarFlareStudios Жыл бұрын
@@0xEARTH Yes, on TV they play the two-toned attention signal. But the 1000 MHz tone is used on NOAA WeatherRadio. I know because I had a weather radio and heard the alerts myself. There are recordings of weather radios going off right here on KZbin. After the weather radio alarm stops, you'll always hear a 1000 MHz tone before the message. Some TV stations do play 1000 MHz tones for weather alerts only, but that's super rare. I've never experienced it myself except for on a TV station that only broadcasted NOAA WeatherRadio. I don't think an alert from the EBS would carry that tone, however. Especially since I don't think NOAA WeatherRadio existed yet. This could just be a "no signal" beep of some kind, like they lost the sound feed or something.

@@LunarFlareStudios basically, yeah. NOAA uses it, but the EBS didn't exclusively require an attention tone (probably primarily because it was not as common for an "alert" -- at the time, anchors would just cut into the live broadcast and explain whatever the situation is, be it weather, civil emergency, etc etc). when the EBS was phased out in favor of the EAS, FEMA and the FCC were very specific about the tones they used for the attention tone, how it's used, and when it gets used. the 1GHz tone was a nicety, for all intents and purposes.
