“There have been many days you get up first thing in the morning and you have no water,” said Dixmoor resident Denise Ruffin.

What a sad story. Someone needs to help these people/families. This is terrible.

Advice to Dixmoor residents from someone who has been living with broken plumbing for more than a year....Fill your bathtub with water and use that as your household reservoir. Use a clean bucket or pitcher to dip water from the tub as needed. You will need at least a gallon to flush the toilet. Do your bathing by pouring water into a sink and take a sponge bath. Wear long hair braided, tied back, or pinned up. Forget about doing laundry. Change good clothes immediately upon returning home so they stay clean longer. Modify your kitchen cleaning and cooking habits. Don't discard the empties from your bottled water supply. Refill them in the bathtub and use those in your kitchen. Don't forget to fill your pet's water bowl. Remember that indoor plumbing as we know it is a relatively new convenience. Our forbears relied on fetching all their water from a well. They survived and so can we.

Could it be that the cost of spreading ever farther and farther out from a manageable center is finally realized to be too much? The suburban experiment is a failure.
