WGU | I can't start my Masters degree early

This is an update to my last video. After a lot of phone calls and research, I've found definitive proof that it's not possible (by policy) for me to start the masters degree early. It's obviously not the results I wanted, but that's okay.

This whole back and forth explanation gave me some SERIOUS anxiety!!! Also, the policy you shared directly affects me too since I was planning on getting two different degrees in business since it seems the criteria are almost overlapping in many classes but the policy form you shared specifically says I have to have 25% left of courses to start a related program, not including capstone or some mandatory WGU classes smh 🤦🏽‍♂️ thanks for sharing and I’m sorry you had such a wild experience! So glad you have a break from them and school in general to refresh and have some mental health care time. I pray all goes well on your job 🙏🏾

You have to love the tales of bureaucracy, but you planned really well with having other goals in the meantime. Hopefully, you can start in July instead of August, but either way, that will be wild if you can get your Master's in the same year. I wish you all the best!

I am finally starting my cloud computing program on March 1st and if I end up finishing in one term, maybe we'll be hitting up that Cybersecurity and IA MS at the same time! Love your channel. @@4kiidd945 Pretty good so far. In 4 months I've passed 8 classes earning 28 credit hours and 2 new certifications. 2 months left in this term. This is already far more than one would accomplish in a traditional classroom education. It's looking like a 2 term finish for me, but I also work full time and am active in my church community / social circles.

Wow! You have saved me some anguish! I am accepted at UMPI and WG and UMPI, UMPI took ALL credits. So I transferred all CC work to Pierpoiint to get the BOG Degree which covers a lot of the classes at WGU … if you go in with an Associates it blanket covers many courses. Anyway…. I was undecided which Owl I wanted to do first (both schools are Owls) 😂. Well I can get through UMPI in 60 days and I started Aug 23. That means I’m done by Nov 1 and hopefully can start the WGU MBA Dec or Jan at the latest! If I instead do the Bachelors at WGU starting Sept 1, I’d have to wait until March or April! No thank you! Will do the UMPI first and then the WGU MBA. I don’t want to be held back as I’m returning to college after a 20 year hiatus! LOL. I want to go while the flame is hot not do it as a slow simmer! I am so grateful for all this! I forgot to mention the BOG Associates took all my credits from 20 years ago (so did UMPI at Presque Isles) and I only need 1 CS Literacy class and 2 elective classes. I’m knocking those out this weekend since why not. I’d like to know my credits from 20 years ago are officially conferred somewhere! 🎉. Keep up the good word! Also yes … I too have had major issues with EC1. Called the ED and person who answered was more helpful and became my EC2. I don’t know if EC1 knows this, but I’ve moved on to EC2. I understand they are busy but if that busy then WGU needs to hire more. It’s really not appropriate anymore as a business or a college to have this long of a process. This is not traditional B&M and the fact that it’s a streamlined education should have a streamlined process… IMO. But businesses get by with just being average, and it’s counterproductive here when students are trying to be above average. That’s my rant for now. This is exactly the same situation I went through when trying to know if I could attend WGU as a Canadian. I had 3 enrollment counselors looped in and a few other enrollment departmental staff including a "higher up". At one point I thought they were deliberately making the process cumbersome. There was a lot of "we don't know for sure", which was confusing to me. I thought "I can't be the only one with this specific inquiry in the history of WGU inquiries". 🤷‍♂ Eventually it all worked out in my favour at the time (2020); though, it took weeks and a lot of proactivity and patience on my part to make it happen. I loved my experiences doing two masters at WGU but the enrollement phase for the first program had to be the most frustrating and confusing part by far.

Yeah I feel the same way. The enrollment process can be really annoying, but once I started my first term, things eventually got a lot better. I love the school overall. I just have to get past enrollment. 😅

This was not a rule when I was a student, what happened was students do get financial aid and if they start their second program early then the department of education is paying and sees that as 'double dipping' trust me its annoying but i get why they cant do it

The enrollment process definitely needs improvement, but I wouldn't let it stop you from attending WGU. On the positive side, once you officially start your first term, you probably won't talk to the enrollment department again unless you end up deciding to get a 2nd degree.

yea from seeing other people inyour situation apparently theres a 3 month minimum wait period after you graduate that you can enroll in the masters... wow interesting.... yea maybe it has to do with accredatation or something.... who knows. well hopefully they can get you going sooner than later

My goodness! I'm kinda glad I'm in the accelerated program. That's nuts. Have you considered looking at Thomas Edison University's MS of Cybersecurity? I know you've got plans, but dude... That's a lot of BS and I don't mean a bachelor's.

I wasn't going anywhere else for the bachelors degree, but I feel like I can do my masters degree almost anywhere. I'd still prefer to do it at WGU, but I've started looking at other schools just to see what's out there. I've heard good things about Thomas Edison University. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey there, Actually have two masters from wgu and a mba from somewhere so 3 masters. A msml done in 2021 in 64 days & a MSITM done in (36 days) where my capstone was graded FEB 6, and just got my diploma today , 2/26/23. I was currently looking to start in july the cyber one, has anyone been able to complete it?

They sent me an email on Feb 28 telling me I've officially finished my degree, but they haven't shipped it to me yet. Supposedly they will ship it within the next 10 days, so it probably won't arrive for another 15-20.
