A hotel is public property. This is not currently being operated as a hotel. The room is being used as Freds private residence, not being rented out to her as a hotel room. The downstairs is a business (a detective business, not a hotel) so vampires could enter that area.

A hotel is not public property, it is open to the public. The Hilton hotels are owned by the Hiltons, not the public.

Interesting. I noticed that too, but Angel owns the hotel. So is he renting the room out to Fred, or somehow endowed it to her officially? Otherwise even if it's being used as a private residence, it's still his house.

Whether vampires can enter hotel rooms, dorm rooms, etc. has always been a grey area in the Buffyverse. The answer seems to be "Sometimes, depending."

Vampires can love without souls. But they can't love *healthily* without souls. James' all-consuming, obsessive love isn't any less toxic than "I'll just tie her up and torture her until she likes me again," and he repeatedly insinuates that love isn't love if you can move on from it in a mature and stable way. Setting yourself on fire to keep someone else warm is not an ideal anyone should aspire to.

And I would argue that's not actually love either. Love is about selflessness and sacrifice, things that vampires NEVER do to those they "love" anywhere in either series. They simply feel lust, desire, obsession. They stalk, kidnap, abuse, and torment those that they "love" repeatedly. There isn't a single example of a vampire (without a soul) actually loving someone anywhere in either series IMO.

3x01 I love the fact that Cordelia has Angel question his Amara ring decision. Great reaction to the end of the episode. 3x02 Love Angel's reaction at Lilah for "coming at her through Cordelia." Loved how Lilah became genuinely terrified.

I'm guessing, for some lore, a soul's personal living space containing a door somehow prevents vampires from entering before consent. Fred lived in cave so that kind of wouldn't have worked back then.

It's amazing how much set up comes out of these two episodes. We hear about Angel's adventures with Holtz, and we get to meet Skip, who commutes. And these two set up a number of events throughout the season, and leave things where they'll need to be addressed in the next one.

Darla's pregnancy is another bit of evidence that that line of vampires, Darla-Angel-Drusilla-Spike, is ..., well, ... special. For whatever reason, they are just not like other vampires.

Having an entire Angel episode dedicated to Buffy would not make sense considering the two shows were now on different networks. Sure, some time makes sense, but not an entire episode.

I thought Heartthrob was a really strong opener. Again in this show we get to see Angel himself as a more richer character, as opposed to the one dimensional character he was in BTVS. A great scene on the subway train mirroring Spike's scene in BTVS episode Fool For Love with the Slayer from 1977. A startling reveal at the end with Darla being pregnant, the consequences of which will drive this Season insane! A good bit of comedy before that with Darla sucking the lime after biting man at the bar. Great comedy moment too when Angel tells Fred to get back in her room after trying to get her out of it before. S3 is great with some brilliant plot lines building, and of course we have the team growing now with 5 regulars at this point, giving the show much more scope. In fairness these are two pretty decent episodes. In That Vision Thing we again these annoying peripheral characters from Wolfram & Heart trying to mess with Angel again, this time through Cordelia. Lots of foreshadowing here again, and a somewhat strange ending in that Wolfram & Hart do kind of get what the wanted but Angel still saves the day and Cordelia.

That spoiler comes at the end of episode 4 so shes good. And I think she's watching the slayalive guide like all the other reactors and they all do the first 3 episodes of season 3 of Angel and it all works out fine.

Yeah, the inviting rule is a bit inconsistent. The best explanation I can think of is that Angel's leasing the hotel, he doesn't own it. But Angel didn't need an invite into Darla's motel room, so...
