Except Angel did it well, rooted in the Rice source material which it was clearly ripping off. Twilight was just a teenage girl wish fulfillment fantasy wrapped up in a bad ripoff of Angel type brooding vampires with an insanely unhealthy dose of mental health problems mixed in. (seriously read the whole series and tell me that Meyer isn't telegraphing some serious buried psychological issues of her own on the pages of her novels)

Fred is living in that room, so the vampire barrier is there. If she were just staying in a hotel, he wouldn't need the invite. They're kind of sloppy and vague with all the rules, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works here.

They intended to do more with Kate, but Elisabeth Rohm had other acting commitments that prevented them from servicing the character fully to make her a more prominent character. During season 2, she was a series regular on a show called Bull (not to be confused with the more recent show of the same name where Eliza Dushku was paid $9.5 million because of the lead's serial sexual harassment abuses) and became a regular for Law & Order as that show's most wooden, monotone ADA in its history. On the plus side, had they made Kate a regular, we probably wouldn't have gotten Fred. Good trade.

I thought Heartthrob was a really strong opener. Again in this show we get to see Angel himself as a more richer character, as opposed to the one dimensional character he was in BTVS. A great scene on the subway train mirroring Spike's scene in BTVS episode Fool For Love with the Slayer from 1977. A startling reveal at the end with Darla being pregnant, the consequences of which will drive this Season insane! A good bit of comedy before that with Darla sucking the lime after biting man at the bar. Great comedy moment too when Angel tells Fred to get back in her room after trying to get her out of it before. S3 is great with some brilliant plot lines building, and of course we have the team growing now with 5 regulars at this point, giving the show much more scope.

I believe this episode should be studied in writing/directing colleges as the perfect exemple of hooking the audience. About Fred's room... It's not about the hotel belonging to Angel, it's about what someone considers his home : Remember in 2x02, when we had the flashback of Angel going to the bookshop owner specialized in occult. He "made Angel run, and shout out after him something like "I'm sincerely considering getting a bed here to forbid you the access !" I'm on the "S2 is my fav" team.. that said, S3 and 5 are really close behind So you don't have to worry : it's good stuff coming !

I still don't understand why Angel needed an invite into Fred's room when he owned the hotel, but Russell could just walk into Tina's flat in episode 1 because he owned the building. It feels weird that whether Angel technically owned the hotel as opposed to just leasing it would make a difference to the (presumably ancient) magic governing vampire invitations, y'know? It sometimes feels like different writers don't quite agree on the details. Jenny seemed surprised that Angelus could enter Sunnydale High without an invite when she knew from experience that vampires don't need to be invited into public buildings, to pick another example.
@emilysimon62392 жыл бұрын
Russel probably had already been invited in at some point. It also could have had something to do with her lease-I could totally see him putting in loopholes so he could get in anywhere. Angel is more respectful and wouldn’t do that. I also could imagine him lying in that moment to give Fred more control over her life again so she isn’t too overwhelmed. Anyone can enter a high school, especially a public one. I think Jenny was just more surprised to see him at all.
@gamingeagle192 жыл бұрын
More than likely Russell had been there before. At least that's the impression I got.
@Talisguy2 жыл бұрын
@@emilysimon6239 Maybe he had been invited over before. OK, makes sense. But if putting legal loopholes in her tenancy agreement made a difference to the magical laws governing vampirism then I'm back to being confused. And with Jenny, Angelus says that he got in because "enter all ye who seek knowledge" was inscribed over the door, as if that made a difference. The writer of Passion only wrote one other episode, so I think he might just not have gotten the memo about vampires being able to enter public buildings without invites.
@Logan_Baron2 жыл бұрын
@@Talisguy Well given what we've seen with Wolfram and Hart as a lawfirm dealing with the supernatural, then we know that there are things that work just like legal loopholes. If something were put in the agreement that said something along the lines of by signing this the owner is invited in (written better in more legalese to me less obvious) then it would definitely count as an invite. But we're really just headcanoning here, to explain what was an inconsistency between writers. The Angel line in Passion I think was meant as Angelus being snarky. I don't even think that was a writer inconsistency, but that the writer knew he didn't need an invite, but wrote the snarky Angelus line.
@Buffy8Fan2 жыл бұрын
As long as Fred considered that room her place of residence and not just a room, then Angel needed to be invited. It's not about who owns a building. It's about whether or not a human considers a place their home. Not a place their staying, but home. That's also why Angel needed an invite into Gunn's gang's hideout, despite the fact that it was an abandon building. That was where they considered home. Jenny was surprised to see Angelus and didn't understand that he could enter the building even without the sign. Angel bringing up the sign was a way to do what he loved, torture her. We also don't know Russell hadn't been invited in before. Nothing states that was his first time.
