I remember finishing Friday afternoons at Te Hapara Primary school in Gisborne with this song. The Maori tutor would come in with her guitar every Friday from 2 - 3pm and we'd learn waiata. This is the one song that has stuck with me from all of my schooling. I'm now 38. Always soothed me.

This song is wonderfully similar to 'Aryati' by Hendri Rotinsulu from Indonesia. Both are beautiful, and I really enjoy them.

The organization I work for that has ties to the Kohanaga Reo program translated this into Hawaiian, but there is just something about the Reo Maori version that can't be beat

The people that disliked this vid are jealous that a Maori waiata can sound so meke
