ever since i was elementary school whales sharks have been my absolute favorite aquatic animal! i first fell in love when i did a project on them in school. they're such beautiful animals & id give anything to be able to see one or go to aquarium in Georgia

I did this same tour swimming with them out of Coral Bay in 2019. The one we swam with was still young at only 4m. It was an incredible experience, it’s one of those things that stays with you for life. They are truly beautiful graceful creatures.

How can someone say that a pool with a lenght of 285 feet (87meters) is big enough so even an adult whaleshark is "able to comfortably swim all that time" and that they "give even an adult whaleshark plenty of room to swim without having to turn around and swimming in circles"?! According to wikipedia an adult whaleshark meassures 32ft (9.8m) so that means it's not even 9 times it's body lenght... not really convinced that this is enough for an animal that is migrating thousands of kilometers....

you do realized the sharks are constantly monitored and don't have to hunt for food to be fed right? they're pretty much fine and were saved from being hunted for their fins.

Ya it should be common sense and illegal but I guess they will all have to deal with karma and God and I hope they get it good from both . These animals should be in the ocean! All of them ,selfish greedy people!!!

@@hatosui Sure ill lock you up in a tiny cell, but hey it will be okay because ill be monitoring you and keep you fed, you okay with that?

Extinction or being caged until there is a solution

hearz is an intelligent organism (being a human) and whale sharks, in comparison, are simple creatures, and not capable of much thought, so the whale shark, i assume would not be affected by a great margin. Locking up a more intelligible creature (such as dolphins and orcas) is far more cruel, and I certainly do not agree with it, but I think they are perfectly content being fed and whatnot. Unfortunately, I am not an animal behaviorist, and if the whale sharks are suffering, I absolutely agree with NOT capturing them and deem them subject to captivity.

So, it is Dr. Taylor who started this tourism problem for whale sharks. I would say it is "economic" tourism, not ecological tourism.

my thoughts exactly; they should care more about them by tackling the fishing industries, that are diminishing numbers to an alarming rate; its selfish human entertainment.

Thank you for your comment, I like your voice, but also the documentation. It shows what we never consider / thought about people behaviour fishing too much, destroy what not need ..that never should be. This fisherman in Asia should think, maybe their kids or grandkids will not have enough food one day, when they behave this bad way...😢😢😢

Humans are so not incredible that we have to look for (and do) incredible experiences. Like trees and the shifting skies won't do it for them. They are also huge, massive. 🌳🌌 Humans care more about feeding their sense of adventure, of newness, of superiority, than about real things. That is not "conservation" if you have to "teach" this way. And these adventurers are not going to do as good a job as someone who is just interested in getting the job done, because SOMEONE has to do the job.

simply. labeling sth as 'eco' doesn't make it less harmful. and keeping several whale sharks in an aquarium will mean losing (i.e. killing) most of them. in the wild the spend their entire time feeding. here they're fed from tiny cups and are bored the rest of the day. makes me feel sick!
