Finally the whale saga has concluded! With their annual northerly migration, you were bound to see some off the Gold Coast at this time of the year. Such a cool video (Errol and his plane too)!

Loved this - I was fortunate enough to find a pod of whales on my first area solo! Followed them all the way down the coast to the edge of the training area. Awesome stuff, Mr Drury!

Same on my first solo! Only there were a dozen 10 foot bronze whalers about 50 metres off the beach where people were walking. YMER

Congratulations on the whale spotting Stefan. I still remember my first from an airplane in the late 70's out of Sydney heads. Speaking of whale spotting thought I'd share a unique magical moment I had in Tasmania. I was on a rock climbing weekend camping trip in Freycinet Peninsular and sat on a cliff edge at night to eat my dinner. I looked down and phosphorescence from the waves was everywhere below me. Then I witnessed something truly amazing, the phosphorescence of thousands of krill being driven to the surface and a whales mouth coming up from underneath, breaching and engulfing them. All of it lit in bright green.

Welcome to Queensland, Stefan! Was wondering when you were gonna get up here! I love flying the Goldie area; if you scoot over around Moreton Island and the Bay you can often see dolphins, turtles, dugong and sharks. I bet you'll be back more often - it's perfect flying in winter!

Thought I saw you in Surfers Paradise the other day. My wife and I went to say 'hi' and compliment you on your videos, but you turned in to Strike Bowling. I am lucky to call Heck Field home, and see the whales during the migration season. Keep up the great work! 👍

Hey Stef, welcome to sunny Queensland…most of the time😁 Awesome experience scooting up the South Stradie beach at low level isn’t it! I’ve done that on more than one occasion! When I saw your Instagram post, I though you had given up on updating EYZ and got a simple aircraft. Maybe one of these will be next. Nice video and congratulations on seeing whales from the sky.
@StefanDrury2 жыл бұрын
I like my glass cockpit too much to give up on EYZ, but it was a lot of fun getting back to stick and rudder flying again. Reminds me that a mix of the two is not only fun but good for improving skills as well.
@CHARLESCRANFORD2 жыл бұрын
@@StefanDrury I'm sorry, I didn't mean "give up" on EYZ I just meant that I thought you were tired of waiting on EYZ to be finished, with supply chain issues and other delays. It is a lot different flying an aircraft that doesn't need much rudder input compared to one that does.

Whales have tremendous hearing. Before man decided to noise up the ocean, whales could hear each other from Pole to Pole using their lower frequency calls. Whales BTW have much larger brains than we have .

Nice! I've never seen any whales from the air thanks to that pesky "gliding distance to land" requirement. It's quite common to see whales and porpoises from BC Ferries. Porpoises like to play in the ship's bow wave.

Hello, the magnified field of view settings on the 360 cam (exterior shot) and the turbulence dipping the left wing makes it look closer to the ground than we were. No rules were broken, and as soon as we saw people on the beach I climbed up to 1,000 feet again as you see at the end of that beach sequence.
