One of the greatest morning-after songs of all time. The first time I heard this was in 1997 or so after a wild night at Palladium NYC. Retired to a new-friend-not-friend’s apartment. Woke up not awake and was asked to put on some music, found Fantastic in a pile of records, put this on randomly and immediately fell in love with it. Cuddled up on the couch and listened a few more times while we watched the sun creep over the windowsill. Absolutely blows my mind that this song is now 40 years old.

I agree. Wham! was unique in the 80s. It was very bad for us young fans when the band broke up in 1986. Although GM quickly launched a mega-successful solo career, when I heard the album Faith for the first time, it was clear to me that the Jewish times were over. He had grown up and so had we. That's why it still makes a big difference to me today whether I watch Wham! or listen to GM. Wham! For me means youth and impartiality. It's a completely different attitude to life.

Upon hearing it for the first time, I then played it over and over and over again. It is a beautiful gem buried amongst the boppy chart hits of the album Fantastic. It also twinkled a little of what George Michael was and will always be, a kind, generous, caring, honest, brilliant songwriter and talented man. Xx

About 6 months before the video for Club Tropicana, George Michael had stayed over at a guy’s house, who had tried to have sex but George was too scared, but, “I realised that I wanted to stay in the bed for the night, I wanted to be close to this guy, which had never happened before. And I wrote the song about that, that’s what that song was about.” Netflix documentary 2023, 21:45. Nothing looks the same in the light. Thank you for your light George.

Its a very good documrntary isnt it. I was glued to it. I have always adored both of them. I used to ask Mum to do my hair like one or the other. After seeing the Netflix film though...... What I like about George's songwriting is that he wrote from the heart and reflected on what was going on in his life. Even the more intimate subjects he wrote about, he packaged them so skillfully that very few people could guess who he was writing about.

George had an interesting evolution. I believe he was a different George here. So deep and confident in his writing, yet young. Like an old soul, but exploring adulthood. I loved his songs, his look, his drive at this time in life (19-20yo). He wasn’t his full Wham! character George yet, or Faith/MTV George yet. Pure, unadulterated, musical prodigy. And deep/open hearted kid/human. ❤

Bought this album in late summer of '83, and felt something wonderful was happening in the world, being a teenager so much was changing but staying the same. That winter, I felt this song for the first time when Eddie Enriquez and I had quiet fumbles, in the darkness of a den, at my friend Elizabeth's after hours (teen club night) party. Nothing much developed between Eddie and I, however, my love for George's lyrics and singing took root; and it's a sequoia of love today.

I watch you breathe, I cannot sleep, I touch your hair, I kiss your skin, And hope the morning sun won't wake you too soon. For when you wake, And look at me, You never know, You just might see, Another boy who crept in your room Take your time (that's what you told me) Take your time But I fell head first, and I just don't know what to do. Nothing looks the same in the light, Only a fool like me would take to heart, The things you said you meant last night. Nothing looks the same in the light, I'll keep my feet firm on the ground. Nothing looks the same in the light, There's danger in a stranger, With a warm hand and a kiss so right. Nothing looks the same in the light, It's been a pleasure, see you around I watch the sun, Upon the sheets. I hear a car, Out on the street, And gently pull you close, it's over too soon. What can I do, But wait and see, Hold on to you, Please stay with me, Because you're the first, and I want to stay here with you. Nothing looks the same in the light, Only a fool like me would take to heart, The things you said you meant last night. Nothing looks the same in the light, I'll keep my feet firm on the ground. Nothing looks the same in the light, There's danger in a stranger, With a warm hand and a kiss so right. Nothing looks the same in the light, It's been a pleasure, see you around

This song is yet another love incident in his life; he was really so interesting in how complex he was. One one hand, he valued his privacy and guarded it like mad and on the other hand, he so beautifully expressed his personal pain, hurt, love, disappointments in ways I've never heard another songwriter ever reveal and communicate. This is the song he wrote about the night he mentions in the Wham! documentary about being at a guy's house and the guy wanted to have sex with him but George said he was too afraid to but wanted to stay the night in bed with him anyway. This is the incident that provoked him to tell Andrew and Shirlie about his being gay. I marvel over how he could put such emotional experiences in such tangible lyrics all wrapped up in the move beautiful creative package. He was so bloody unique and special ❤
