Beautiful setup. My compliments to the chef. I'm amazed that they can be driven with an SET (and I've seen others do it too). I have a pair of the Denton reissues myself. Underrated in my opinion. Remarkable bass-extension for a 5" woofer, plus they have that liquidy-black coherency in the mids. And like the old Wharfedales, these respond REAL well to quality amplification. An awful lot of speaker there.

I need to get my Dentons back on duty. I have them in the box right now, mainly for two reasons. One, I'm really enjoying my old W90's at the moment (Just got a UPS/AVR for the shoddy voltage where I am, which transformed my system). And two, that finish is so nice, I'd hate for something to happen to it, so I put them away until I find a bigger place where I can handle multiple systems/multiple pairs of speakers set up at once. But I think I'm gonna' have to maybe hook them back up for a week and see how they do with the UPS/AVR. The veneer on them is beautiful. Almost TOO-beautiful. That finish is a distraction from what is a really-great speaker. I need to hook mine up again. I don't think I even gave them the full burn-in yet.

I have a set of Denton 85 (new, bought two months ago). Amazing loudspeakers, although the like the volume to be turned up a bit (cautiously). I can imagine the the 80's might be as good.

I bet the bass on the updated reissue Dentons goes WAY lower than the originals. That said, I do understand what you mean about the old ones. I have W60D's and W60E's, which are from that same era as the original Dentons/Denton 2's and have the same kind of mids and highs. Wharfedale back in their heyday was the epitome of natural-sounding. I have a pair of W60's and a pair of W90's, both from the early '60's, and those are as natural and organic-sounding as it gets. And for a Beatles fanatic, there is simply no other choice. The old Wharfedales had the same kind of bloomy mids as the old British-made Vox AC30 guitar amps that the Beatles used, so when you play their music, those old speakers light up like the big Xmas tree at Rockefeller Plaza.

I had the originals back in the early 70's too, I sold them after a few years and replaced them with the Wharfedale Linton's. To be honest I do not remember them ever looking as sexy and as well made as these new 80th Anniversary Editions and having paper cones no doubt the drivers would not be as appealing with the grids removed like these new ones are. Speakers have come on a long way and these new Denton's not only look but sound GREAT! too. These days I have a 7.1 AV setup and have the Wharfedale Diamonds 9.1's. I think they are ideal for my purpose and do the job. But just looking at these babies makes me want to go back to where I started back in the early 70's and they do look Gorgeous.

Holey moley - that is a strange arrangement of your speaker stands. Are you going to reveal the equipment and source. I'm hearing a pronounced suck-out in the lower midrange making the male voice sound tubby, the piano is smeary and the sax has no punch.
