The midrange dome sounded like it was distorting a little there (when you were close to the speaker) but I'm still impressed with the overall sound.

Sigurd, That was not the midrange driver distorting. That was a sound effect in the song, which was clipping the mic, when KVR moved to close to the driver. Listen to the original recording video, here on KZbin. You'll here the the sound effect in this song. Additionally, this is why you have to use specially designed microphones to amplify bass cabinets or guitar cabinets. Or if you need to mic a specific instrument. Hope this is helpful.

Hello KVR I need a lil help here plz! Can you tell me exactly what size the woofers are exactly of for Wharfedale Evo 4.4. And what is the impedance of one woofer ? Actually I have wharfedale Diamond 240 floorstanders and I wd like to replace two of its woofers with the Whardale Evo 4.4's woofers if possible. The Wharfdale Diamond 240's having 6.5 inches woofers and I think the woofers are parallelly connected to each other. Please shed some light as you have happen to have the Evo 4.4. I am searching for speakers. Was planning on getting the Yamaha NS F901's. but I've always been partial to ribbon tweets, a local place has the EVO bookshelves of these Wharfedale's and now after your reviews, I may ask to demo the bookshelves and if I like them, I'll order the EVO 4.4. I like the amp! I can't get that around here. Have you ever tried Hegel H 95 or H 190 on these? Or what about the Technics SU G700? Thank you for your view. These are impressive.

Hi KVR, I read on audiophile forums a couple of people saying these 4.4s are excellent speakers but that the AMT tweeters drop off dramatically when listened off-axis, meaning the speakers have only a very narrow sweet spot. And better for a dedicated listening rather than a living room where people walk around. Do you agree with that assessment?

I just can’t rank or classify these speakers’ sound signature of course this is only possible when listening in person, but given the relatively low price they’re offered when compared to other floorstanders it really drives you nuts. Hiend speakers for a low price? Kvr, have you ver listened to spendor, proac, salk sound or other floorstanding speakers up to 10k€, apart from Elac, Dynaudio and Kef? If you have how would these Wharfie stand up against those speakers?

@Stefano Mangano : I didn’t listen any of you mentioned speaker. I didn’t find dealer here or online retailers with return policy. However apart from what I had previously , with my selected music , I demoed kef R11 , kef r3, Dynaudio Evoke 20, 50, B&w , revel floorstands ( around 3 to 5K), D3 805 , Harbeth C7 and 30.2 . Some other what ever available with dealer under 5 to 6 K . And also all were fired up with 10 to 15 k priced electronics. None of them clicked to my ears and did not feel justifiable for asking price . I am not saying they were sounding bad , but I would say my choice of sound signature was different . Finally i have selected these under 60 day return policy. ( with my own facts ) I am not the guy who just buy fine things , cool looking vintage speakers , turntables with out price/performance ratio match. But I am open , I try , I learn and I change.

Thanks for all the info and demontration you bring on these speakers. I am very close to buying a set too. But someone wrote: "You needed to remain away from the Ribbon tweeter. It's large size, for the cabinet, makes the high's localized when you stand close. Very good mid-range though." - Did he mean that the listening window is very narrow with Ribbons ? - What is is your take on this critizism ?

@Poul Moeller : one of best future of these speakers is sound stage with layers with instruments separation and smooth highs. And if you pair equal price amps, you’re set for truly high fidelity sound . Sound is very subjective. Listen in person or buy with good return policy

@@kvrhifi Thanks §;-) After Dynaudio Contour 3.3 with Classe 151 and the 20 year old Audio Alchemy DAC I returned to one of the best combos I ever hear: Audiolab S + P power amp driving the B&W 802 serie80 suddenly all aggression and sharpness was gone with a 10 feet deep sound stage and I started to enjoy my 1500 CDs again after 10 years. Helped the new Audio Alchemy DDP 1 and PS 5 Power Supply. But when I started to use my new active computer gems: Edifier R2000DB suddenly the B&W 802 sounded flappy and and less defined so I seriously need a speaker upgrade. I looked at different choices Dali Opticon 8 etc. but it cost almost twice as much as your 4.4. which is an increcible bargain price.

@Gilbert: No . But I know every bit of adante as61 , how it’s going to sound . The bass from adante excellent when in their comfort zone, but the movement we increase the volume it will give up. With this song I am sure you will hear bass distortion with adante when we crank up volume. I also actually feel evo 4.4 even more precise bass than adante. Dynaudio were in my list based on adante experience due to lower crossover over point to tweeter. But I didn’t try due to huge port back side. Because they need space, also I wanted proper floor stands with upper bass as well as with out need of any sub which I learned from Elac slim towers.

Hello, on the basis of your Vidos, I bought the Evo 4.4 White. The bass chassis should be 15cm in diameter! The dimensions of my EVO 4.4 are 13cm inside! Without an outside ring. With her too? Please info, and thanks. LG

@S. S.G. . Congratulations. I never thought of about size . But I found some info. Probably you measured outside rubber surround. See guidelines here www.crutchfield.com/learn/how-to-measure-speaker-size.html It should be edge to edge include outer frame. ( till holes )Not limited to appeared rubber surround.. Look like in evo case speaker actually metal frame holes covered by outside wave guid ring. Aprt from size , please share your listening impressions.
