I just was playing this album on Emerald 95's , also Emerald 91's (impossible to find now) and Emerald 97's. For those who don't know, the Emerald series was an aberration in terms of quality and sound. My understanding is they were the first range of speakers Wharfedale contracted to be constructed in China. They are wood veneer and are gorgeous and have amazing clarity, openness and sound stage. I own several as yet unopened 91's, and a bunch of Diamond Anniversary 7.2's which are, in their right, fantastic speakers. I have a trio of 99's, the largest Emerald Speaker system and they are, in my opinion, the best speaker I have ever heard. I had GALE speakers (amazing) and my cousin owned audiophile speakers costing around $10,000...and I had a buddy who was all about audiophile speakers and they both could not believe the sound I was getting our of the Wharfedales from non audiophile receivers (Onkyo, Pioneer, Sony). I did drive the 99s with a luxman cube 400 watt magnetic amplifier with great results as well...

Hello Guy, i've just sold my Emerald 97 MK iV for buying this Evo's 4.4. I'm affraid they don't have the same base as the Emerald's! I'm not sure if i'm making the right choice!

@Robert Timofte I moved a few years ago and packed up my 99s, which remain stowed away. I also have an unused pair of sapphire 87s (with blue cones). I opened them to test them and they have presence a plenty...but less bass. I'm using emerald 97s mk4 in my living room, and the 91s in my music room. The 95s are in my den. I had modus 1.6s (with the Nautilus style tweeter outside the cabinet) that had amazing bass. My adult son stored them in the basement of a property in Brooklyn and they were ruined by moisture. My first Wharfedales. Very large. I have an older speaker that I bought as a pair, but the seller screwed up and I never got the second speaker. I still have it. Give the Evos a chance. They should compare well to the 97s but I know you'd love the 99s with their 8" woofers. Man they couldn't be over driven.

@@guymitchell4784 Thanks for the answer! I made a choice today, i'll go for the Dali Opticon 6. I'm amazed how this sounds...

@Robert Timofte not familiar with Dali. I don't have the interest to search for something better than the collection I have and would like to reduce the number of unopened speakers I'm storing in am unused bedroom. If you need any Anniversary edition Diamond 7.2s as surround speakers or need a great speaker for a system in another room...let me know.

Boz Scagg's Dig is not only a great album, it also sounds amazing. Great choice.

It's the system that I wanted. I usually listen to pop and jazz and use it to watch movies. What do you think? Is the amplifier power enough to drive the speaker?

I have EVO 4.2's with REL subs. Love them. One of the very best deals available in high end speakers .

I'm on the fences between the 4.4 or the 4.2 with 2 t5is. WHy did you choose the 4.2 with the subs for about the same amount of money?
@stonefree1911
@stonefree1911 3 жыл бұрын
@@visu4239 I thought it would be a more flexible system overall. It sounds great, but if I were to do it again I'd go with the 4.4's, even though I still think I would need to add a sub. Which also was a reason for going 4.2's, I figured I'd need sub with either.

@@stonefree1911 Thanks. Yeah, I'm on the fence between the two. Though these videos make the 4.4s a compelling choice.

@@visu4239 You can't go wrong either way (win, win), but if you have a good sized room and price isn't an issue, I think 4.4 would give a touch better "full" sound, but the difference my be negligible in a small to medium room.
@visu4239
@visu4239 3 жыл бұрын
@@stonefree1911 the room size is one of my concerns. The room is 12x15, I'm a bit concern that the room is too small for the 4.4. The 4.3 is an option but I don't want to settle for that.

My concern with buying these $2,000 speakers is the bass ... the Adam S3V Studio Monitors can go as low as 32Hz, but they’re $3,000. These tower speakers can’t even go that low. Why?? The $900 Polk RTI A9s go even lower than that. What’s their excuse?
@tmnvanderberg
@tmnvanderberg 4 жыл бұрын
Adam S3V: 36 Hz (-6dB), Evo 4.4: 38 Hz (-6dB). Not a big difference for 1000$ more. The Polk RTI A9 they give an bs number of 30 hz, actual tests show it's around 40hz (-6dB).

It's also just a number. They can easily tune it to measure lower but mid-base performance and impact would suffer. None of them you mention are subwoofer low levels so it doesn't really matter in my opinion. Room placement will matter way more than a few Hz one way or the other.
@tmnvanderberg

@@seelafever It's not that easy to go under 40 hz with 6,5 inch drivers

tech measurements can be VERY misleading. It's the sound that matters. Very few speakers REALLY get to usable sub 40hz easily. Subs are a way of life for most.
