Wharfedale Evo 4.4 vs Dali Oberon 5 vs Wharfedale Diamond 12.3

After moving to a smaller property I found my system sounded crap because I could'nt use a proper isolation rack and my speakers were just not right in the new room. My system was....Heavily upgraded Thorens TD160,Rega RB300,Nagaoka MP150...Arcam cd72...Arcam avr280 (running in stereo)...Kef q5 speakers... My system now is same turntable...same cd player...Audiolab 6000A ...Dali Oberon 5 speakers,I no longer have the isolation rack so I use Isoacoustic's isopucks underneath my cd player. What a revelation,beautifully clear treble with no harshness,well projected mids that sound as they should and the bass is unbelievable for the cabinet size. I think the Audiolab/Dali is a match made in heaven.

Thanks for the review. The Mission LX mark 2, Fyne Audio and the Monitor Audio Bronze would work well with your Marantz amp.

Very sincerely the EVO 4.4 are incredible, but they need better electronics to show themselves. Also, they are not to put and listen, you must place them perfectly, well separated, space back, toe in 20-25 degrees, no grid, and then it's heaven... only comparable with US 5K speakers. I am suprised you feel the marantz amp is on the brighter side, i always thought of marantz to be on the warmer side. Those Evo 4.4's do well in a larger size space.

Yes... They could never be accused of being bright, quite the opposite, its a warm, slighly boring sounding amplifier

I would upgrade your amplifier in the first place , even a used amp with 150w rms at 8 Omh , this is the only way to solve the long term under power problem unless you stick with bookshelf speakers. for good amount of power , most speakers do sound good , only difference are sound signature Thank You !

The Dali's are very easy to drive for a floor stander. My amp has no issues driving them.

To satisfy your curiosity did you try the 4.4’s with a better amp? I am considering them at the moment along with Rega’s Elex amp at 75 watts per channel.

I also have the Dali Zensor 5, great speaker, and am also very interested in the evo 4.3 which looks great. I'm not a fan of exaggerated bass myself. Had denon pma800ne which sounds messy especially with deep tones. amplifier is Primare i15 Prisma class D in combination with, among others, Dali Zensor 5 great combination, very tight bass. Dali F5 is a difficult speaker with a lot of bass. the design is beautiful but not entirely my taste, too much bass despite the class D amplifier. The Evo 4.3 and the 4.4 are often offered here in NL, especially 2nd chance. I now understand why, thanks to your explanation, great thanks man. (sorry for any grammatical errors, google translate)

To pull the front cover off, put your hands in the middle of the cover and pull straight off, the way you were pulling those on the Dali will break the studs eventually.

I own a pair of 4.4s and yeah you have to be sitting right in front. Kind of a narrow sound stage. They sound amazing though!

Wharfrdales Evo 4.2 on stands might be a better fit than the 4.4 and £600 cheaper.the Dali Oberon 5 are a very pleasing speaker as well,if you're dead set on floorstanders.

Since your heart was set on the Wharfedale EVO 4.4s I am surprised you did not try a different amp befitting the speaker requirements...? I love Atc entry speakers but if the amp is not up to them the Atc sound will obviously be meeh....

It's just a question of money unfortunately. Couldn't afford to buy speakers plus an amp. So I had to buy speakers to match the amp I already had.

I drive the evo 4.4's with an Rega Aethos and they are superb, definitely your Amp that is not powerful enough. I also used an Exposure 3150 with great results. Out of curiosity I ran them with an Onkyo amp at 45 watts and they were terrible.

I heard Oberon 3 and 5 with Marantz NR1200. Oberon 5 plays flat without scene and bass. Oberon 3 is much better.

Interesting, with the Marantz PM6007 amp, the bass was very good. So much so I got rid of my subwoofer as there was no need for it.

Marantz amps definitely are not on the bright side. Not even neutral. Are tweaked to sound with rolled-off trebles, I would say.

Maybe time to change your amp or move it somewhere else. Love the Wharfedale Diamond series and 12.3 under £500 great value. And the EVO 4.2 large Bookshelf Speakers on stands around £600. Hopefully you will get the right ones, all the best.

I do like your channel, however feel a little lost by this video. Your AMP must have a problem or is the problem. 40W @8ohm is pretty low for these speakers that recommend 30 to 200, so 40 is the low end of acceptable, It is an unfair review or comparison judging the sound of the EVO 4.4 with 40w amp. You certainly don't need 200 watts to make these speakers come alive in a way that the music gods would than thank you for. I run IOTA VX separates bridged at 100W per channel @8 and the sound of certain music is capable of making the listener emotional, they are that good. ( to my ears and soul) Sound, music, and love are so very personal and individual, so I respect your views, but do feel they were not given the chance they deserved.

Cheers for the review. In my experience Dali speakers are much better wharfedale. Even though I like and own both. Please try out a set of kef before you decide. I have a pair of kef q100s in my living room on stands and they are outstanding.

@@UTILITARIANTVUK I've got the pico set up on my office desk in my spare room. Running through a marantz amp. I bought some warfdale 220s thinking they may be an upgrade. I was wrong even after Running them in they sound good but don't match up to the little picos for sound quality. Really impressive for such a small speaker. The kefs I have downstairs in my living room with a sony amp and for music and movies they are incredible.

I had totally different experience when i tested out the wharfedale 4.3 and dali oberon 5, tested with a audiolab 6000, wharfedale sounded safe and lacking in base, oberon 5 had a slight roll off on the treble, mids were spot on, and the base was amazing, they go very low, i even asked if the guy in the shop if had turned the sub on, he said no, i didn't believe him and had to check for myself, the oberon 5 were making the room shake. Your amp is abit under powered i think and your amp probably got more out of the wharfedale, or maybe the dali speakers weren't run in enough.

@@allenwilliams8962 The 3050i are good for home theatre but I prefer the Dali Oberons for music and 2 channel stereo. The 3050i can sound a little woolly on the low end.
