So I did the math because I was laughing so much that it made me want to know. It would take 800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 hot dogs to equal the mass of the moon. Then I went further and decided to check the volume as well. It would take 438,000,000,000,000 hot dogs to equal the size of the moon. So the size of hotdogs to equal the mass of the moon would make the cluster of hot dogs 1826484018% larger than the moon
@amdent25 ай бұрын
I'm curious how you did that math? I got closer to 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 and for Chicago dogs I got 5 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000. I must have done something wrong. I'm just curious
@cya3295 ай бұрын
@@amdent2 It has been a long time since I have done any serious math, and I am sure there is a more efficient way of doing this. But long division and multiplication with pen and paper using the numbers they used in the video. Moon's mass "1 followed by 23 0's) and "40 hotdogs in 5 lbs". Moons mass divided by 5 lbs was 20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 increments of 5 lbs each. Multiply that by 40 and get 800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. Then I googled what the volume of the moon and volume of a hot dog would be. Divided the volume of the moon by the volume of a hot dog to get the size comparison. Then the volume of a hot dog by how many hot dogs it would take to equal the mass of the moon. Divided later by the former to get the percentage.

Per the American Top 40 (hosted by Casey Kasem), they literally looked over at the clock in the recording studio and couldn't quite make out the time, hence the name of the song and the lyric within. They needed the time for the song (not invalidating Geoff's explanation in any way), and that's how they arrived where they did.

regarding the average hot dog count, 70 a year seems like a lot but also consider the fact that youre not only eating one at a time. youre probably eating 2 or 3. so instead of 1 hotdog every 6 days its more like one meal of hotdogs every 12 or 18 days. And a family of 4 can have hotdogs once every 7 weeks and that still adds up to 70 per year. Also, at least in my experience, hot dogs are a staple food of low income households, i was basically raised on hot dogs. So my family was definitely eating them twice or even three times every week.

To clarify the number of "packs" in reference to your abdominal muscles is not something you can change... It is genetic, most people (60 percent) of the population have 3 connective tendons across your abdomen. The other possibilities are just less common variations. It doesn't indicate anybody is slacking. It isn't possible for someone with a six-pack to get a 12-pack...

So if the hotdog is 6 inches in length with a diameter of 1 inch, that means it has a volume of 4.71 cubic inches. The moon has a volume of 21.9 billion cubic kilometers (source nasa) with a conversion to cubic inches is 1.33641999567e+24 written out it looks like (1336000000000000000000000). So 1.33641999567e+24 cubic inches / 4.71 cubic inches = 2.836518e+23 written out looks like (283700000000000000000000) so roughly that is how many hotdogs you will need to fill the moon.
