The ending scene brings always tears to my eyes with Luchenko showing so much respect for her especially in his sentence saying that he might have just played the best player of his life. Simply perfect! 🥰🥰

This is one of my favorite scenes in the whole series. The way Luchenko is presented, he is obviously one of the most prestigious and well regarded players of all time. A living legend that although perhaps past his prime, is still highly esteemed amongst the other players. The admiration he has for Beth Harmon is truly heartwarming. His recognition of playing perhaps the best game of his life transcends the political entities that were trying to manipulate the circumstances of the USSR vs. USA games. He is truly in awe of an absolutely brilliant player.

Nice game of Beth Vs. Luchenko. Beth played very well and Anya has done some great acting. Luchenko did the gentleman thing here to resign. Nice an alternate answer was found that Qe4 still gets Luchenko trapped in a pin.

I know that this reply is like 3 months late, but I just started playing the game and I had a question. At 3:08 when it’s his turn, isn’t his pawn in front of her king? Maybe a technical error, but am I missing something?
@BraceFaceMiler3 жыл бұрын
@@asharaebeard3676 yes it is, but a pawn can only take diagonally, so the pawn you see in front of the king isn’t putting the king in check or even threatening any other pieces. Kings are often times used to block pawns from promoting.

such brilliant writing in emphasizing how old he is, the level of experience he has, and the narrative of him playing other heavyweight grandmasters throughout his career - for the punchline of him telling her "I may have just played the best chess player of my life." - really gets you choked up

I got the sense earning his respect meant as much to her as winning the tournament. He was sort of the Russian version of Mr. Shaible.
@thegreenreaper6660 Жыл бұрын
Mr. Shaible... the only 'dark horse' in the story. After éverything he taught her, she never got to thank him for all he did. Mr Shaible followed Beth's évery move around the world: he even kept a clipboard, full of articles from newspapers and magazins about her, and she néver got to say 'thanks'... let alone return those 5 dollars he borrowed her... Though he easily would have waved away those 5 dollars, its the symbolica value of them; Those 5 dollars stárted Beth's carreer as a Grandmaster Chessplayer! I had hoped, during mr Shaibel's funeral, that beth would have spoken a few words of respect about the amazing chessteacher that was hiddin in the concierge of the orphanage, and she would have never became the woman she grw out to be, if it wasnt for the brilliant mr Shaibel.

At 1:10, can anyone tell me what the background music's name is? Doesn't seem to appear on the OST, and yet it's so riveting, especially the build up.
