I liked that they gave him a 6 sided die, whereas hers was a 20 sided die. It gave me the impression that she's been "rolling the dice" longer than him, her choices are more open and complex. She has more opportunities or paths to take, which makes sense when you see him realise she was rescuing herself and him in the end.

Thank you for reacting to our shining SHINee leader, Onew. This is such a fun video and a new side of Onew that I REALLY like, and I adore this new sound from him. I've already purchased the album from iTunes. I also found it cute that Onew kept the album title trend alive that was created with Taemin's first album, "Ace" and then Jonghyun saying he "plagiarized" Taemin's album title by rhyming his first album by using "Base". Then Key jumped on the bandwagon with "Face" and Onew with "Voice" and now "Dice". SHINee is one of the very few Kpop groups that DOESN'T create drama. They are not into scandals either. SHINee is also very well-loved by SM and the industry across the board. They are considered icons and legends within Kpop. They also started gaining and exerting their own creative license early on. Jonghyun and Minho wrote many SHINee songs and rap segments, Key designed their stage costumes, and Taemin tweaked choreo. In 2015, SM gave them even more creative license to write their own songs and have even more input into their direction. Key actually became an official SM fashion director and in 2020, Taemin chose his own producer for his "Never Gonna Dance Again" MVs and acted as co-producer/co-director. So I'm not sure it would be something like that. I like your analysis that Onew & the girl are the only humans. Makes perfect sense. Also, from what I can understand, each roll of the dice can change the outcome of the situation. At first, it appears that only Onew has a die. When a die appears in the robot-like character's hand, it appears to be short-circuiting because its hand is vibrating in a slightly chaotic fashion. However, if you look at the girl's hand (right one looking at the screen) during the elevator scene we see that the female protagonist also has a die, so she can also change outcomes. This is my take on it anyway. Others will have more input to clarify things...lol. If you're familiar with SHINee at all, you can instantly recognize the SHINeeisms throughout the MV. After listening to your analysis, a few things just struck me after watching this for the umpteenth time: 1) The "bellhop" robots in the beginning, as well as the robots in the dining and party scene have dull, sick-colored green masks/faces. The backup dancers have the more SHINee-colored masks. 2) Are the robots experimenting on lemons and trying to make that blue-green (called pearl-aqua -- SHINee's signature fandom color) juice that all the robots drink become a cheap imitations of a SHAWOLs (SHINee fan)? You'll notice that the color isn't quite right. If you look at the slime on the walls there are two different shades of aqua. The brighter blue color is the signature color for the SHINee fandom, while the other color has more of a green tint -- jealousy perhaps? What if the robots are trying to turn sour lemons or "fake fans/anti fans" into the real thing or make them look like the real thing. Maybe it's a reference to those who call themselves SHAWOLs but are actually saesangs, or are they in the process of turning the tables and making anti-fans into real SHAWOLs. Are they a cheap imitation like blobs on the wall or becoming the real thing? 3) The overall bold coloration of set and fashion which is reminiscent of Jonghyun's "She is" and "Shinin" and SHINee's "Atlantis". 4) The party scene with bright fashion, presence of fruit amid decapitation (remember the severed portion of Key's neck looked like a lemon slice), eyes being knocked out, etc., are, again, all reminiscent to SHINee's "Married to the Music". 5) The nod to Taemin's chainsaw fetish in "Criminal". 6) The entire "world" he's in reminds us of a planet Key would discover within his "Bad Love" space explorations! 7) Although I'm still searching for any tidbits from Minho's "Heartbreak", one SHAWOL suggested the golfing scene may be a nod to Minho who loves golfing. If the golfer does represent Minho, you can see he's surrounded by the correct pearl-aqua color (fans) on the walls while a few of the greener blobs cling to it. If anyone has anything else, please let me know. I could be totally wrong, but it's too much fun to postulate theories.

I really enjoyed your reaction to Onew! The scenes where he's the bellboy and he's looking into each room makes me think of his (and SHINee) expectations or hot topics that has surrounded their career. Room with injection of the lemon: Expectation of SHINee always having to be experimental Room with the man playing golf: There's a metaphor for golf where you put yourself in a hole and its symbolize that you don't control the negative things that happens but you still must overcome it Room with the married couple cutting cake: Constant need to know about their relationship status and them coming of age for marriage I also feel like the lemon represents bright and shining SHINee. Everyone wants a piece of them and as the lemon bleeds, it symbolizes that they bleed just like everyone else. Anyhow, Dice is so refreshing and his new album really blew me out of the water. I really hope he release a full album because Onew's voice is one of the most incredible voices out there.

The symbolisms and metaphors are strong in this MV. It's fun and bright yet "dark" and weird. Watch his first mini album title track, Blue. It's dark too but hv really strong storyline for you to think deep about. Blue is a dark ballad, a little operatic with amazing vocals. Would love to see your interpretation of it.

Dont worry you also got me with your interpretation. Mine was actually the relationship of the girl and the character onew is playing- fans (shawol) and shinee. It's usually the standard prince saves the princess but here it was reversed, there were a lot of times that Shinee mentions the importance of the fans support. Shawols saving the day, no need saving, they'll come naturally - a natural relationship.

I was wondering if you were gonna react to this one, and im so glad you did. I really enjoyed your ideas about the music and the video, you definitely managed to notice a lot of details on your first watch. I think the general theme of having the faith and hope to give your whole self going after what you want no matter all the weird and scary things that surround you (especially in a field like kpop) is very applicable to a wide variety of their experience even though its primarily framed around a love story in the video. He fumbles and stumbles, and ends up being saved by the girl in the end, but hes rewarded because he believed and was brave enough to risk everything for it. Also I think its an interesting choice to give the girl a 16 sided die compared to Onews 6 sided one. I think Onew said he wanted a 6 sided die to represent the 5 Shinee members and their fans (shawols), revealing the girl has 16 sided die fits into the narrative of her being more capable than him in this situation. I think maybe your theory has even more merit (and its interesting it works in a love and life/career narrative) in the first verse he talks a lot about how the game should be played, taking slow calculated moves, taking turns, moving 3 steps at a time, to resolve in basically screw the rules start rolling dice just your whole heart into it risking it all, and just believing it will all be worth it in the end.

The lemons made me think of the saying ”When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” and the people doing lab stuff with the lemons represent a sort of capitalistic approach to this saying. In other words they’re trying to make a profit or otherwise benefit from the situation in every way they can. And the girl is a human representation of the saying (since she’s dressed in yellow). It’s a fun video, the song’s good too! ☺️

you know what, as a fellow kpop enjoyer myself who's been watching and theorizing for years now I think you absolutely can take all liberties to go as deep as you want and feel with these mvs especially sm ent production. It's obvious to me now that there are entire universes behind every grp, most of the time, the grp concepts aren't really explained to the grp in thorough details and they're made to be as suggestive and as full of symbolism as possible to keep the fans talking abt the comebacks for a while after the promotions but they're never random or hapahzardly designed. I noticed that solo comebacks involve the idol/artist much more so there's always some shade being thrown bc of previous controversies or some kind of message that resonates with the idol too from song lyrics to the concept in general etc. There was def a lot more fun things to upack from this mv like how onew's appearance changing every time he rolled the dice reflected his character development and how he went from looking like this innocent childish boy eating icecream to this leaher-clad stud and the symbolism in between with his "weekend boy" uniform working a full time job and witnessing all the craziness around him and at the end how the /girl/organic lemon/ love/ human he thought needed his help was the one to get him out of the crazy hotel. Really fun stuff!

Don't think you were being too deep. I also thought what you did. "That's weird" and 'it's confusing' are common comments cuz peeps don't understand, haven't thought too much about society in genreal in relation to art and the symbolisms. Larger and larger stories within the "personal." THIS SONG is a BOP! As Onew has said, he is going against what many think of him--as a singer 'without diversity.' The WHOLE ALbUM is about him exploring new avenues of expression.

No, you didn't exaggerate! I don't know if the concept has that much depth, but subconsciously it makes sense that Onew chose it. *Fake vs honest* is a recurring theme in several of SHINee's and solo MVs. In fact, SHINee's comeback teaser from last year is called "Fake Reality", inspired by Tim Burton's aesthetic. If you watch "Married to the music", "Bad Love" or "Criminal", you can see this reflected in the people wearing masks or the funny situations that suddenly turn bizarre. They can explain it better than me, but I think SHINee members use their music to rebel against all those who try to force them to look like something they're not. They are at a time when they want to offer an honest image of themselves. Especially now that they have more creative control over what they do.
