Gareth is not an alcoholic, he was a binge drinker and as far as I can make out he only drank at the weekend which means he went the rest of the week without alcohol and that’s the difference. Cut him a bit of slack. Man cannot live by pop alone.

Hi gaz ive now been sober for over five years now as i was drinking to a point of blackouts and unfortunately got caught the next day driving to work and had a ban for two years not proud of that as it had a massive impact on my family. So i decided to pack in the drink completely, now i enjoy going to friends houses and the pub and I also drink these alcoholic free drinks it looks the same as the real thing but im not hammered at the end of the night and can remember everything not to point where I have to go and apologise for something the next day, so don't worry about what others say im now alcohol free and feel good no slippery slope, so if you're doing good on what's best for you stick to it pal well done for speaking out you didn't have to tell everyone about you're problem well done, its good that someone like yourself is doing what im doing at first i felt embarrassed about it but now it's getting quite popular, keep going and enjoy it

These non alcoholic malted drinks are very popular in Eastern European countries, often served at lunch time in workplaces. Very refreshing. I think for Gaz his issue was binge drinking not alcoholism. So these types of drinks are part of the solution, not a return to the problem. In moderation and control we are all good.

To All of the Naysayers, Pissed from 14-44 years old..20th Oct. 26 years sober, Non Alcoholic/Very Low Drinks, are not the start of a Slippery Slope. It's a Nice Refreshing Change from, Water, Tea, Coffee. I start my Day with a Nespresso Cappuccino or two, 50 capsules about £35. When on Offer, Marley, yes Him, Blue Mountain Coffee, it's Awesome., Soft Drinks, Milkshakes, and all the other 'Soft' Stuff. Correct me if I’m wrong Gareth but as I remember you weren’t an alcoholic - you liked a drink at the weekend, occasional weekday, but you had a binge when you did drink. Came to your senses when you had an accident. I was the same - big binge drinker. Finished work on a Friday and made sure I had a case in for Friday and a case for Saturday night, along with a bottle of whisky and a wee extra case just in case I went and drank my case and fancied another. Had a wee accident and realised that I was binge drinking and cut it out. Now unlike you I still drink at the weekends - maybe bottle of wine over the weekend, couple of cans or a malt or two. Thing is I’m in control and have never went back to my binge drinking or even felt like it. Enjoy a non alcoholic drink or low alcoholic drink if you want and ignore the people that are screaming you’re on a slippery slope and what not. Some of them actually want you to fail just so they can do the whole big I told you so. Best of luck. 👍

I Struggled With Alcohol For 10 Years and Sitting Down With a Non Alcoholic Drink is The Last Thing I Would Want To Do. It Makes No Sense To Me Why You Want To Put The Motion Of Drinking Into Action If You Don't Want Alcohol In Your Life...? But Sitting Down, Smelling It, Drinking It And Saying How Nice It Is And Everything Else He's Doing With Non Alcoholic Drinks, Just Smacks Of Someone Who Is Missing The Activity. It Makes No Sense Otherwise.

Hi. Just out of sheer curiosity: why the non-alcoholic reviews in the first place? Is it like with quitting meat and consuming meat-free products which imitate meat?

I'm guessing -- and correct me if I'm wrong, I may well be -- that quitting alcohol is making him think about alcohol a lot. I think he's playing with fire here.

@@hvbris1 You may as well be correct. I think it is easier for one to be in denial. Drinking low-alcohol beverages when you know you have an alcohol abuse issue is absolutely absurd.

I understand you must miss the taste, brewing is an art, as contrary to belief people do drink just for the taste and not just to get merry or drunk. If you find your perfect moderation you have won the battle, cutting back to an acceptable level is a mindset as well has being tee total. But If you can’t take it or leave, as it acts as a mental crutch then you are probably doing the right thing.

So much virtue-signaling and shaming in the comments -- it's tiresome. But oh well, goes with the territory I suppose. Be interesting to see what you think of carbonated, non-alcoholic ciders. They're good cold or warmed up in the microwave 30 seconds (cinnamon stick optional).

I don't think its " virtue signalling" you're misusing the phrase. It's genuine concern, and I think often from personal experience.

I’m sorry to say you haven’t stopped drinking if you’re still drinking. All of the rituals were there, the smelling, the idolisation. Like a smoker maybe saying they’ve still stopped whilst having a low tar cigarette. Please be very careful.
