One of the best dance scenes ever. The guy who actually did the breakdancing parts was only 16 years old at the time. That's Crazy Legs Richard Colon. The leap through the air was actually done by a gymnast and the rest of it was done by the same dancer who did most of the moves in the Maniac scene, Marine Jahan.

This scene, no matter how many times I watch, always brings tears to my eyes. Talk about making someone feel something. To me, this scene is about coming alive. At one point I believe she forgets she's even auditioning. She's doing it for her, because she loves it, it's inside of her. The break down part cracks me up but her moves right after that is this energy of "I'm going to dance whether I get in this or not! This is who I am, this is ME!" Tears every single time. We all know that Jennifer Beals didn't dance in that scene, and the young lady who received no recognition for that performance made the movie magical. She should have gotten recognition, as that was an incredible performance. She knows who she is, and so do we. God bless her. She will be 60 now, I hope she is still as fit and healthy as she was then.

For those of us who remember those times, break dancing was not yet a national thing. This film kind of put it in front of the nation at large - just that little spin she did was something most had never seen before and it blew people's minds. People began asking, "What was that thing she did? How did she do that?" It was the film everyone was recommending back then as a must see.

To be fair, Michael Jackson introduced break dancing to the world when he moonwalked on national television around the same time in 1983. I was 13, living in a very white suburb outside of Toronto and by the end of the summer kids were dragging around ghetto blasters and carboard to have dance offs all over the place - it was hilarious. As young teenage boys in the pre-internet age, we went to see this movie for something else entirely!

The movie has had it's detractors from over the years, but there is no denying what a perfect feeling of triumph this ending is. For any movie about a dancer, it really has no equal. For anyone that ever had a dream, they can relate to this.

@IronmanKMSA, I remember seeing this great movie in the theatre when it was released in 1983 and every movie critic I know of universally hated it! But I cannot see what the fuss was all about. Sure, the story and the acting wasn't all that great, especially by Jennifer Beals but I don't think it was meant to be. Besides, it her first acting gig. Adrian Lyne I thought did a good job with the directing considering what he had with the script. But it was the dancing and the music that made the movie.

It's a great scene and probably qualifies as one of the best dance scenes ever in film.
@stuartmack7658 Жыл бұрын
@@HighAsHeckPriestess I'm not such a big fan of the Step-Up movies. Too heavily choreographed for my liking, like a lot of modern stuff. The dancers appear to be concentrating more on their moves than on their performance, if that makes sense. Flashdance's final sequence feels much more freestyle, energetic and straight from the heart.
