What a fool believe he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away. The gravity of that statement is undeniable. Incredible writing.

This is beautiful! And it has made me wonder whether I've been hearing the song wrong all these years - I've always heard the highest note in the Doobie Brothers' harmony as the melody, but Therese makes a compelling case that I'm wrong...!

I've come to expect differences in even the major bits of songs from stories, but I wasn't expecting that key. It threw me and I didn't know what to think; I had to take some time singing the line I remember and matching up notes. On the second listen, it's the kind of thing that somehow evokes an emotional response in a beautiful voice singing an unexpected key that still works, but subtly changes the meaning or mood of the expression. Brains are weird, but for this kind of thing, I'll take it. (meaning just about every time I hear a totally unexpected note in a key or progression where I was expecting the upcoming "soul note" to be a particular one, and a totally different one is sung, especially one that's comparitively very minor, or doesn't resolve nearly as well, and it's a strange backwards-mirror-neuron reaction) (what I'm saying is, when that happens, I can't really process it the first time, but the next few times I listen through, they make me get really emotional and want to either cry or punch the air)

This song here. It's so well written. It is more concerned with telling a very sad, timeless and relatable story..and it isn't necessarily concerned with rhyming, until it happens to.. beautiful and simultaneously sad. A personal theme song of mine, and a staple of my small childhood memories.
