@terrycannon5706 жыл бұрын
I would think the speed would be determined by volume of fluid instead of pressure. Pressure is the resistance to flow. Flow into and out of the cylinders are what causes movement. Therefore volume could be the problem and not pressure.
@JasonWorksAlot6 жыл бұрын
terry cannon yes, you are 100% correct. Down to things as small as line size can have an effect on hydraulics speeds. Pressure is related to force, flow is speed.

I was reading up on this machine on the "Heavy Equipment" forums and there seems to be alot of complaints about how slow it is. They say on some you can go in and change the speed of the boom without plugging into it but not sure if you can on your machine. That definitely looks like a boring job that you're working on but i definitely would still enjoy it. I miss running equipment should've never got out of it. Of course I never got to run anything as new as you equipment.

What a mess indeed. Too bad you didn't have someone in the community that could use those wood blocks for winter wood, and didn't mind a bit of mud on it. Make it a one-time deal for someone, and make their winter. Let them take whatever they find in those messy piles, as long as the owner agreed. Charity could be as easy as that if all agree. Just an idea to think about. Saves you burning time for some of it.. lol

Bummer about the manual thumb. We have a 30 ton machine with a progressive link thumb which allows the thumb to have as much rotation as the bucket. The thumb can contact the bucket with the bucket fully open. We just took delivery of a 5.5 ton machine with a direct cylinder thumb that has the typical rotation. It's usable but frustrating. Cat does not offer progressive link below their 8 ton machines, according to my salesman.

Can't believe that there is no one in that state who wouldn't have a grinder for such things. Another youtuber who had land cleared in same state said there is no one with a large drum grinder to do this so he had to pay to have 30+ acres cleared and deal with brush piles which one almost set his neighbor's woods on fire.

I've talked with Chris about this before. I sold my company a couple years ago and had grinders, trucks, and all the equipment that went with the recycling operation. Its is VERY expensive to run grinders. That material we could grind, but the product looks like it would be very contaminated with the amount of dirt in the pile to be sold as mulch. That would only be good for a composting operation that needed bulking materials. There has to be an outlet for the material to make it economically feasible to run a grinder. We would charge around $500-$600 an hour for the machine and excavator to load it, with the contactor supplying the other equipment to move the material. If the material was clean enough to resell then I would bring in other equipment to load out 100 yard walking floors to move the material offsite to either our yard for more processing, or if we were lucky straight to the customers facility.

Mr Letsdig18, is there any chance of some times doing a time lapse shot away from inside the excavator, showing you doing the job from start to finish. Would be greatly appreciated for a different pov, and you have the option to add a voice over, music or subtitles in the back ground? (Please ignore, if editing footage this way, will take you away from making money or home life, Thanks.)

I know your pain on moving logger piles. That makes a long tedious game of pick up sticks. Look at the sides of your thumb, it looks like the one I had on a cat 325. If the pin on side is between the peaks of the teeth on the thumb (meaning between teeth where the is not that much metal to it) weld a plate to it and reinforce it. I say this because I snapped it in half. (No lie the whole end from the small pivot pins to the tip if the thumb fell in the dump truck) when they made that set up it would have made more sense to put it where it would be at the peaks of the point.

@northmanlogging27696 жыл бұрын
also as a logger, that pile of long butts is unacceptable, especially on the east coast where they give us west coast cutters hell for all the tall stumps, only to then cut off what we leave in the ground
@ngnmech6 жыл бұрын
Northman logging, you bring up a good point, I have always wondered why they cut the trees off at ground level, and then cut the butt off at the landing before loading onto the trucks. Why not just cut the tree higher to start with. May have to do with the different type of logging equipment used. IDN.
@northmanlogging27696 жыл бұрын
it has a lot to do with processors, to get an accurate length they need to slice the end off, a good operator can get it pretty close, but a lazy one just lobs off what ever. Granted some of it is defect or junky bits in the middle, but most of it is long butts and there is no excuse for that.

With out that thumb, you would be screwed. Also this particular video will not play on my big screen tv, I can only play it on my computer. Very strange. It's almost to bad you can't just put that shit though a tub grinder, you would have it done in just 123. but I now it's muddy and it would be hard to get one to the site. Because in Wisconsin we just lease them. and wile your leasing them your making money to pay the lease back. You should check into it as much as you guys burn. You could be stockpiling compost and mixing it with dirt and selling it. In Wisconsin we even collect leaves and mulch them and mix them with the dirt and sell that to the customer. It's all about making money. Right?
