for me, that I'm italian, this house is so beautiful and big. I'm feeling unconfortable reading all the comments wrote by americans saying that this house is small for them...what type of house do you have in America? castles?

It feels very cramped and narrow. I live in the Netherlands and this house is definatly too small for my taste. The hallways are only wide enough to walk for one person, same with the kitchen. Claustraphobic.

I don't know why people complain ! I have seen other Japanese houses / apartment , this one is huge compared to the other ones !!! That high ass ceiling !!! Other homes don't have so much space ! She even has a bit of garden and a patio , considering the space in Japan available that's PRETTY GOOD ! Maybe to give more of an open space feeling she should tear down the wall that separates the living room from the dining room/ kitchen , IF POSSIBLE !

Depends heavily on the area; Tokyo = very expensive, countryside = super cheap!
@Nero-xv
@Nero-xv 8 жыл бұрын
Expensiveness is a relative term. It will always be relative to whatever else you might be comparing it to. I imagine that the closer to central Tokyo depending on the complex and amenities the more expensive the price will be. Usually this is a case with cities. The countryside is a bit more forgiving in terms of price. Weigh out all the factors and base your decision on that.

It's strange that all the rooms are so small and yet such a huge amount of space has been wasted above the living area. Putting a ceiling in would have given 2 very large bedrooms upstairs.
@Dragonite1256
@Dragonite1256 8 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same exact thing haha.
@crimsoncaliber8270
@crimsoncaliber8270 8 жыл бұрын
It's done to make it more open and feel spacious. If it had a ceiling put in with rooms above, it would be less space that would make it feel like youre packed in a tune can, plus all the lighting you get for free would have to be replaced electrically with lamps. Adding another room doesnt make it better. I know everyone has their own preferences, but Americans are spoiled, self entitled, have been raised that more is better; thats why they are hardly ever happy. Believing more is better. Sometimes simple is just better in its own way. But to each their own.

@jsbfkdls
@jsbfkdls 5 жыл бұрын
@@lana6430 best advice i can give is throw up the food you ate before the flight, all of it. There should not be coming out food anymore just weird orange stuff. Yuck. then take a pill to make you feel better then you will LITERALLY be sleeping for hours upon hours even if you slept a solid 8-9h the night before and when you wake up you will not (im not joking) be able go walk a straight line because you basically have nothing in your stomach to make energy for your muscles. You will like fall in and out of sleeping even when you walk. So my suggestion is to ask the flight crew to wake you up 1h before the flight and just stuff yourself with all the food you can find. And by this point the flight/high altitude will be little to no concern to you since you only have one thing in mind, and that is to get nutritions. I would also recommend bringing a friend just in case things dont work out as planned. Dont ask why i know this. Overall this method is a solid 7/10 because you will want to die first but then rapidly feel better as the time passes by. Its quite the rollercoaster of emotions.

Rick White my place is smaller (by choice) and I'm southern, I also don't like driving, bad for the environment, in California I walked and rode the bus everywhere, sometimes took the train to LA, I have to drive though since we don't have sidewalks or public transportation and everything is really far out here in the rural south. Stereotypes (even self stereotypes since I'm betting you probably are American) won't get you far in life that's all I have to say.

Be thankful for the things you can get in America. "You really don't need much more than that" is just a way of saying anything else costs a fortune and the country doesn't have the resources for it in Japan. And also, nothing is meant to last long in Japan except kimonos, so none of this will exist in 30 years.

@jamespratt2986
@jamespratt2986 8 жыл бұрын
financing is not too bad assuming you have a decent credit rating/job to afford the loan. Though there are some hoops to go through naturally. Taxes are heavier on the land than the house: the land is extremely expensive the larger the lot the more expensive... think city front street prices per square meter. In America, you're really paying for the house in most areas, the cost of the land isn't a large part of it, unless you have acres of area around your house. The opposite is true in Japan, the land cost is a much larger portion of your purchase price You can buy a condo for about the same price as a house in Japan, so cheaper because you aren't paying for the land, but then there will be annual/monthly building upkeep fees, plus renting a parking spot for your car, so it evens out. Condo would give you convenience of location(you wouldnt even need a car usually), but a house gives you space, but you will have to get used to commuting unless you are obscenely rich. Every house is a trade-off in Japan. space vs. convenience of location. That's true everywhere, but Japan much more so. Remember, Japan is the size of California with half the population of the US!
@Yeldur
@Yeldur 8 жыл бұрын
So you could buy a small amount of land with a very luxurious house, only it would be very small for much cheaper than you would if you were to do the same in the US?
@jamespratt2986
@jamespratt2986 8 жыл бұрын
depends on the location...you get a LOT more land in rural areas than you would in a city/near a transportation hub. But as a percentage of the cost, the land is a much higher amount that it is in the states, My point is that land in the states is only really expensive in big cities, but in Japan, just about anywhere convenient the land is a significant portion of the cost..

I don't think the house as a whole being small or large is the issue here but rather how the space used and split between rooms etc. For example: I immediately though that the corridors in this house were too narrow and I'm not even from America (I'm from Finland). The point is that many people would rather have less rooms with more space and open spaces than many small rooms and narrow corridors.

It's the perception of looking at an empty room and thinking it's big versus looking at the same room with a bunch of furniture and things inside, it looks smaller. This house is quite small, it looks huge because when you saw it outside, it's 2 stories and has 2 buildings connected. Although it is small when you actually pay attention and realize that the kitchen is smaller than my restroom.

A9HirotoPon Yes it's good. :D I mean the only ones you'll commonly use is konichiwa and arigatō. You should start learning hiragana, then katakana, then grammar and then kanji. Use JapanesePod101, it is good. Arigatō in hiragana is ありがとう Konichiwa in hiragana is こんにちは You should use ha (は) instead of wa (わ) for the end of konbanwa, konichiwa and particles. But it is still pronounced wa.

looks small from the outside but seems so big inside, why is there a sink in the hall way ?
@Xer0Requiem
@Xer0Requiem 8 жыл бұрын
Best guess on the sink is because the toilet room up stairs didn't have a sink in it. Downstairs was similar in which the toilet was kind of in a closet and the sink was located in the washroom nearby.

I may live in a big house (well for me since i'm still young) but this house just looks so nice and cozy with all the things you really need tbh. I've watched this video like 2 years ago and here i am suddenly remember this. Man i swear in the future i might come back to this video when I'm thinking of house ideas or house hunting in japan haha

What's with Japan and tiny spaces? This is such a big house and they still sectioned it off into small rooms - those are tiny kitchen, toilet, shower and bedrooms. It doesn't make any sense having that middle part of the house into a loft and then cramming the bedrooms into a small space.

That house is amazing. When you say "your" house do you mean you and Mike bought and own the house or is that your family home?

It's my family's home but they all live in the other older traditional house that is closer to our shrine. My grandparents feel more comfortable in their traditional house :)

First, it is very sweet of you to answer my question. I genuinely thought someone who was paying better attention than I would answer for you. Second, whew! I thought that if you had bought a house in Japan and could still rent in LA then I was going to have to get out of the casino business and move to where they are passing out the real money! Thanks again. :)

your new home is amazing and it's soooo cute I love it but... is it comfortable to have lots of big windows? like everyone can see what you're doing and maybe you're not well dressed (I mean...really bad dressed) idk... can you have you're own privacy living in this home?(it's just a question, I actually love the house)

Ralph Pineda I didn't say naked but imagine if I try to be comfortable and I look disgusting in the morning. I need to see so I'll open the window to get light. Everyone will stare at me

If you do not have the windows to begin with, you will get the same amount of light as you would with your blinds closed.....?

tbh i really don't see much people going out of their houses (as i observed when i was in japan). i rarely see our neighbors out of their houses. so you don't need to worry about that as long as you don't get naked lol and the folks aren't out and about.
