@@kristie825 so true. I remember Queen all the way from my childhood. In the 90's I was a young teen, listened to Queen, Whitney Houston, Bryan Adams. I know that Queen is back thanks to Adam Lambert (somehow it works, but he knows he will never be Freddie and I respect him for that). Whitney Houston died not so long ago (at least for me), I still "have" Bryan Adams (actually I've been at his concert few years back and I'm going again, he will be in Poland next month). But artists like these don't pretty much exist anymore.

I was there that day in 1985 as a 15yr old pop music lover... I left that day as a convert to rock music, thanks mainly to Freddie & Co... You need to remember that this was NOT a Queen concert or even a Queen audience, in fact they were a last minute addition to the line up. That said for 22 minutes that afternoon Freddie had close to 73,000 people in Wembley and almost 1.9 billion watching on TV globally eating out of the palm of his hand. I'm now a 55yr old woman who's been to 300ish live rock concerts over the years, everyone from Guns n Roses to ACDC to Uriah Heep, Meatloaf, Status Quo, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi (48 times 😂) to H.I.M and the 69 Eyes.. but that 22 minutes right there is still by far the best 22 minutes of live greatness EVER! And one show that has never left my memory! God bless you Freddie and Thank you for the music.. RIP you legend 👑👑👑

It's important to remember that this wasn't Queen playing to a Queen audience. The people there that day weren't specifically there to see Queen, a lot of them wouldn't have said they were Queen fans, but he had them fully in his control, eating out of the palm of his hands. He was THAT powerful as a performer, THAT charasmatic.

I have watched this performance thousands of times since I fell in love with Freddie Mercury and Queen back in 2018 after seeing the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. It never gets old. I watch the original performance or reaction videos every single day and I think this performance is absolutely stunning.! Sheer perfection. Run, don’t walk on over to watch their Wembley 86 full concert performance. It is 🔥 you will really enjoy it. Great reaction. Probably one of the best ones I’ve seen. You picked up on all of the small nuances, including the guy standing off stage with the best seat in the house and the acknowledgment of the audience during we are the champions. I can see you really appreciate the quality of this band. I grew up on hip-hop and R&B, but once I fell in love with Queen, it is hard to go back for me because the difference in quality is so glaring to me now. I still listen to it, but when I want the best, I come watch Queen at live aid.

Roger Taylor (drummer) has said in interviews, his toddler wandered into the room and said “Radio Caca” and Roger was like …that’s funny…hm So they kinda went off that, but Freddie also had a deep affinity for actual radios, because this was right around when MTV was starting to “kill the radio star”. So that’s part of it, the lyrics “someone still loves you” is about the radio as a dying medium. The video is crazy and futuristic, but the bloopers are even better, because they can’t stop laughing and they look ridiculous in a flying car. Also Lady Gaga’s stage name is a direct reference to this song.

If you want to see the true power of Queen watch the video of the audience at a Green Day concert singing Bohemian Rhapsody word for word. What often gets forgotten is Queen weren't on stage until about 6pm in the evening and the show started at midday, and it had been a hot day, and everyone must have been suffering from the heat and the sheer amount of time thy'd been stood around, yet were still this enthusiastic to see Freddie and Queen, it wasn't just a Queen audience there yet to see and hear them you wouldn't think so.

If you notice there are 3 lights at the front of the stage, they indicate how much time you have left. Each artist had 20 minutes to perform. When Queen runs on stage you hear them all do a quick sound check. At the end of the set just as the last cymbal crash falls the light turns red showing they are done. This is THE Masterclass on stage performance.

After this performance, the part where Freddie gets the audience following his "ayyy-oh" runs became part of the next Queen stadium tour the following year (1986, again at Wembley), and is SO epic and legendary here in the UK, that 21 years after Freddie died, at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics in 2012, they had huge screens and holograms of Freddie (along with support from Jessie J) doing it, with 80,000 live spectators, including literally thousands of mega athletes like Usain Bolt, Lebron James, Michael Phelps, Andy Murray, Gabby Douglas, etc (and me, but I'm not an Olympic athlete lmao 😂)... all singing along at his command - it was spine-tingling and AMAZING (it's here on YT if you want to see it) 🤯🤩🤩

TRIVIA: At 2:22 Freddie was blowing a kiss to his Mom, who was watching the live show on TV at home. At 10:21 According to Brian May, Freddie’s “AY-OH” call-and-repeat w the crowd… was NOT planned! (At least, the other band members did NOT know it was going to happen.) When Freddie sang that first “Ay-Oh!”… Brian said he was at the back of the stage (he was doing something w his back to the audience) and he just thought to himself: “Oh, so we’re doing THAT, now, are we?!?”😳😄 At 16:30 In EVERY live show, at some point Freddie would always “give a backside bow” to the crowd as an “EFF YOU” to the guy about whom Fred wrote the savage diss song: “Death On Two Legs”. At 18:00, 19:00, and 20:28 While performing “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, Brian May always changed guitars THREE times: 1) Acoustic 2) Stratocaster (borrowed from Bass player John Deacon) and 3) Brian’s Red Special. (Brian’s so smoooth, most people NEVER notice!) BONUS: 23:02 “Oh my God, I’m an IDIOT”😁 26:25 “Oh sh___t, I shouldn’t even publish this video”😜 29:27 YOU NOTICED THE LIGHT CHANGE AT THE END! (I’m sorry I don’t remember if Brian’s quote was just in print (which of course would cast doubt on it) or an on-video interview. I’ve thought about the timing aspect of course, but finally assumed they must’ve allocated a couple of minutes “padding” where Fred had probably “intended” to give a little introduction. I believe Peter Freestone had also said in an on-camera interview something about the “AY-OH” session being spur-of-the-moment. Peter’s opinion was that, because the not-a-Queen-only-but-mixed audience had responded so well following Fred’s lead during “Radio GaGa”… that Freddie just decided to do the “AY-OHs” on the spot.

If Bohemian Rhapsody "the movie" said that then treat it with great scepticism. I certainly did. Loads of things in the movie weren't accurate, in fact they were downright lies. Of course it wasn't because it was never meant to be!

As others have said.. they (all performers that day) had 20 minutes (absolute) to do their set. Queen spent a week practicing so they could squeeze as much of as many of their hits as possible.. they nailed it. Also - they were not on the program as they were a last minute add.. so this wasn’t a Queen crowd! There will never be another Freddie… he WAS music! Great reaction, as always… thank-you!

Mercury had a baritone, but through incredible control of his voice he sang like a tenor. His vocal range spanned four full octaves, more precisely 37 semitones. An analysis of his vibrato determined that his vocal chords simply vibrated faster than others. Mercury’s vibrato moved at a whopping 7.04 Hz, whereas the typical Western classical singer has a vibrato somewhere in the range of 5.4 Hz to 6.9 Hz - and this is just for classical singing.

The drummer, Roger Taylor, helped Freddie with the high notes due to Freddie being ill. I love hearing the beginning when each of them do a sound check in just a few seconds that you would miss it if you didn't know it was happening. Such an amazing band. I am happy that Roger and Brian May still get to play the songs they helped to bring alive and as well as the ones they wrote. Each member brought something to the table and Freddie mesmerized the world.

It°s not true!!!! Queen were booked from the very beginning, Geldof planed it, they just did not know about it and later they were not really interested in it. But thank God they said finally yes to perform. So the whole world can enjoy this. Anyway during the Queen performance called up a person and gave the biggest donation!!!! So Queen saved Live Aid. Their concert was streamed in Philadelphia in the JFK stadium too. Mega!!!!

This was such a technical masterpiece. A huge live performance with acts in multiple countries and satellite feeds across the world and being shown live to pretty much every country. It was the biggest thing on TV globally in 1985! Well over a billion people watched. Today this band and this performance is remembered as the greatest 20 minutes of a show that was the greatest show ever. Other acts gave the performances of their careers on a global stage but those performances didn’t come close to this. Undeniably the greatest performance of that occasion and possibly the greatest live performance ever. No flashy screens, no pyrotechnics, nothing but pure talent.

I love watching reactions to this, because every time, I'm 18 years old again, in San Francisco, first time away on my own and having the best day ever in front of the tv. Live Aid was supposed to be the global jukebox and nobody did it better that day on either side of the Atlantic than Queen. I was watching for Bowie, who faced the impossible task of following THIS up. My biggest regret is never making it to an actual Queen show.

David Bowie was just off to the side of the backstage watching . He was heard to say after Queen had finished . " They just stole the whole damn show. How can I go on after that " ? ! The Fellow that you pointed out standing with his arms folded just off stage to the right of Freddie, was Jim Hutton. Freddie's Male companion / Lover. He and Mary Austin were Freddie's best friends in the world. He loved both dearly. It was Mary and Jim Hutton who helped Freddie through some emotional times in his life . There has never been since , and I doubt will ever be again the likes of Freddie Mercury. He was a TRUE showman in the classic sense , and by every definition of the word. The type of performer that one rarely sees anymore. RIP Freddie.. You and the Boys in Queen were the most trailblazing , musically influential band in the history of music, and you all have earned every damn letter in the word GENIUS !

Another little song you will have heard "Another one Bites the Dust ". Queen also did the soundtrack to Flash Gordon. Hi there, I'm a bit late seeing the vlog but I was in London on 13JUL85 and went to the Live Aid concert while on a trip visiting my mum's family.........Queen was THE ABSOLUTE BEST and Freddie, there are no words....approx 73,000 people, it was an amazing day that I will never forget!! I was 17 that day and whenever I see clips of the show or listen to their songs it brings it all back. I got to see Queen with Adam Lambert in Toronto, Ontario last year and it was a fantastic show, Adam Lambert did a brilliant job but I got a bit teary at times just thinking about Freddie......an eternal legend.

This is one of the best live performances we have ever seen. Incredible and so amazing considering that Freddie was feeling very unwell and advised not to perform by doctors but he never let his fans down and knew what an important landmark event this was. Such an iconic performance! Excellent reaction…. Your face when you put two and two together on “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” being Queen songs… absolutely priceless. And no judgement at all, it was adorable. 😂 I love how even without (mostly) knowing the songs you can see how utterly commanding Freddie’s stage presence is. There are many smaller things about this performance that make it so iconic as well from Freddie’s outfit (at the time, wearing black accessories with spikes was considered VERY subversive and a nod to his sexuality, if a subtle one); his signature use of the top of the mike stand to perform with (again, kinda subversive, very phallic 😂); his 4 octave range; the way he had the crowd absolutely eating out of his hand by playing to every single person at Wembley. It is one of the truly great rock performances of all time, so enjoyed watching you react to it for the first time. (I wasn’t even born yet, but this performance is required viewing!) Maybe go watch the movie Bohemian Rhapsody next 😊 From what I understand, Queen took this performance VERY seriously and they rehearsed and prepared for it far more than other (and more popular bands in 1985 than Queen) bothered to rehearse and it SHOWED. Three of the four wrote the songs you heard here, and they rehearsed for a week, Fred was just the same in rehearsals it's not something just for the concert, the amount of people who say never heard Queen before, you'd need to have been living under a rock, might not know what band it was but you'll have heard their songs in films, TV adverts, even used in TV programmes. The four also work by eye, so everything is absolutely timed for this performance, as they had just 20 minutes and this isn't even a Queen crowd, they were a last minute group taking part after tickets had been sold. I would suggest going onto the official Queen KZbin and watching a few interviews and documentations, and you'll hear how they got together, Fred actually joined Roger and Sir Brian in their group at university in 1969. You have four highly successful and intelligent people all with university degrees, they built their own Amps, designed own lighting rig, built own guitar, designed Queen logo etc, it's certainly not Fred and the other three, in his own words he was just the lead singer and not the leader

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in college here in North Carolina when Live Aid happened. I remember it well. My friends and I loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together and one of the big things young people did then. My wife did the same thing during that time period as well. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I cannot describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then compared to today. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. Our 4 adult children (29-33) love 70’s/80’s music just as we do. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.
