I am a singer/guitar player who performed this, and other songs in a duo sometime in the mid 80's in NSB, Florida at a Tex mex place. We finished a set and saw Neil Young sitting there eating, and listening, and applauding. He was in town to visit his mom who lived there and was sick. My duo partner insisted on going to Neil's table to tell him what fans we were and how much he influenced our music. I didn't want to bother him, but we did. Neil was the most kind, polite, and friendly person. He thanked us for the good music and tolerated us. His music is vast and beautiful, and he is still at it. A music legend, and really nice guy!

You ever see these lyrics ? Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

For younger people who don't know who Neil Young is, I'm glad when they discover him. Neil Young is one of the greatest singer songwriters who came out of the 60s-70s. He also rocks with a band he calls Crazy Horse. But Neil's most famous singing companions were Crosby Stills and Nash. They sang together so much that the band became known as Crosby Stills Nash and Young. For Neil Young songs (more like OLD MAN), I recommend Needle and the Damage Done and Heart of Gold. Try listening to 'The Needle and the damage done" from this same session. Amazing. PS This session was done in England, which is why he felt the need to explain what a ranch and ranch hand is. Also, during this session, he has a harmonica hanging on his neck. Neil Young is legendary. For a romantic sound for you both, I would recommend "Harvest moon". Light some candles, have a glass of wine, and get ready to slow dance. Peace.

I have an interesting perspective on this. I listened to Neil Young when I was in my 20s and now with my 70th birthday in November of this year I am the old man. You are absolutely correct when you say that if an artist can be stripped down to the most basic levels and still show extraordinary talent they are the ones that will last. Neil Young is still performing.

'Special' is the right word. There is nobody else like him. He can write ballads, country, all-out rock anthems - he is truly unique.

Neil Young is a Canadian legend, and there is no end to the amazing songs he has recorded. Would strongly recommend Alabama, Southern Man, or Ohio for his political side, Cortez the Killer, Down by the River or Cowgirl in the Sand for his guitar insanity, or Helpless, After the Goldrush, Harvest, and a million more others for more of his softer side. He has so much gold in his catalogue. Glad you liked him!

That’s the beauty of classic music. Back then artist could perform. No auto tune, clicks. Real music. They could perform.. Ohio, All the Lonely People, The Needle And The Damage Done, Harvest Moon & Heart if Gold. And that’s his mellow music. He rocks our major bangers too

You have to listen to The Needle & The Damage Done off the Harvest album. It is an emotional song full of truth recorded in the 70's.

Neil Young is definitely on the Mt. Rushmore of '60's/'70's singer/songwriters. So many great songs to choose from, but I would suggest "Sugar Mountain". Also, his work with Crosby Stills and Nash is phenomenal, especially "Ohio", look it up to get the full meaning of that song. As always, love the vibe y'all put out, your inclusivity is refreshing.

Amazing songwriter of the 70’s snd truly a voice for the Vietnam era generation. From soft acoustic solo songs to the heaviest grunge rock you’ve ever heard. Try Cowgirl in the Sand official remastered version. You will be absolutely blown away!

Neil Young is another Canadian icon. The "Harvest" album was on our playlist for years in my youth. Check out "Man Needs a Maid" if you want something heartbreaking. The studio did a weird arrangement on the album, with Tubular Bells and a full orchestra, but there's a live version - possibly from the same performance as this one - where he plays the piano. "Helpless" is a song he did with Crosby, Still and Nash, that speaks directly to my heart, having grown up in Ontario myself. It's funny to think back to Neil's acoustic days, because they didn't last long. He did a lot of great stuff with his band Crazy Horse.
