The guy with the Supra is my customer. He was ready to sell that car less than 6 months ago because he couldn't get it to 100ft without it making stupid moves to the wall so he brought it to me for a complete 4 link plotting and set up. So i'm stoked for him but good to see you getting the wagon figured out too as we have an old mutual customer with Will Stevenson. So I follow you also to see how you're program and Tom Bailey's is coming along.

Might be best to switch your trans fittings to steel from aluminum. That 500 deg rapid temp swing might be what caused it to get loose. Aluminum grows way faster than steel so it would be more prone to issues.
@stevet647

Another option is draw a paint line on these fittings and a matching line on the trans then check to see if it moved.

If possible, titanium is an even better choice. We use that on my GT3 car where ever we can as not only is it light, it moves a lot less than both steel and aluminium. When we check everything from exhaust header bolts to high temp hose fittings, to wheel center lock nuts, titanium is always super consistent. For this reason AF Corse also assembles our transmissions using Ti fasteners whenever possible.

Nick do You realize which engine and the power level each of those 'Import' vehicles have; Starlet, Mazda PU, 6, RX-7, etc. ? => They use a Mazda 13B, twin rotor, 1.3 L, ~79 c.i. [65 cc,~39.5 c.i. /rotor] turbocharged reaching 1800wHP -> 1800-200 lbs. -> 6.5 -> 6.2-.3 sec ET, 210-25 MPH 1/4 mile !! -> the quickest 4 cylinder at World Cup 2022 also achieves 6.4-.5 sec ET 1/4 mile ! ->the Red Supra from Ryan Sammut Racing, achieves 2200 wHP, obviously with a 2JZ engine, 3.0 L, 2.36 sec, ET, 223 MPH 1/4 at that Import vs Domestic event at US 131. The key is power/weight -> also lower weight means less torque, forces, thus components are more durable too. Sincerely

ANY car can be made to be damn quick, and power is easy to make the trick is getting it to hook up because we don't race dynos. Also, Wankel engines are claimed to be smaller in displacement than they are for one reason: Japanese Taxes. Did Clark and Kyle not run this event? This is a real interesting journey you are on here. In small aircraft, there is a lot of engine vibration, so important fittings are wirelocked. Have you considered doing something like that? And remember, those little things you were up against are half the weight of the wagon, so they may have a higher power to weight ratio than the wagon.

Be the first racer on your block to build a trans cover. Seen to many videos of trans lines loose even a crack in a trans. Spraying fluid and or hot mist. Every one of them would have saved the driver from a spray job. It could be 10 inches above the trans so not to induce heat. No it is a big deal.

What is the flashpoint of the trans fluid? The temperatures you are seeing in that trans are crazy hot. A trans fluid fireball in the cockpit would be disastrous. That’s the one thing I see in all these big power door slammer drag cars that gives me pause. Many years ago I drove an AEA 32 Bantam with the trans right between my feet. Was at the track one day and saw a guy blow up an auto trans in a wheel stander car and it made a big fireball. Hmmmmmm.

So how is this converter different from other converters?? To allow it to slip? You would think the friction and steels would be the culprit. My takeaway from college (converter class) was rpm allows fluid to build pressure which spin the stator, the sprag clutch only allows for movement in one direction.

As commented below, the fittings are very likely to come loose at those temps. Just the rapid heating of the aluminum fitting could cause it to come loose. Also I would look into the temp ratings on the hose you are using. I’m not aware of any common hose rated for temps of 600 let alone 900. It would be catastrophic to have a hose fail at the big end, could be a BIG fire let alone oiling the tires.

Hardwork always pays off, but back to the oil temp, what will be the bad thing of opening up more that plug you drilled, let's say two more sizes, will it cool more but have other negative effect because it is bleeding oil to fast out of the converter?

Would lock- tight help with vibration loosing fittings? Or does it get to hot to help

Pressure lines try to straighten themselves out as pressure rises, this can loosen fittings. Also, if there is a bunch of weight hanging off a fitting , it can unscrew it. Also, I've long pushed for having a cover over the transmission for this very reason. 600* oil is going to result on come pretty bad burns.

When you torque the fittings on hoses paint marking provides a visual way to see if a fitting is self-loosening.
